Cardiff

CARDIFF
Maddie McGuire
(c) 2004 GirlMoon Music

{verse one}
(Am)(Em)
here's what I think of Sunday
you would never let me say
I can't say how I feel
left out of your deal
so won't you talk to me
it's the beginnin' of the week
God rested on Saturday
let's move it to next Sunday

(Am)(Em)(G)(C)
So who are you oh no
knockin' on my window
won't you just let me be
if just for ten seconds please
who are you to pop on by
uninvited and so sly
always to come and go
however it pleases you so

{chorus}
(Am)(Em)(G)(C)
so riddle me this cut photographs
(C)
why must you cross all my paths
(Am)(Em)
what was is the past
(G)(C)
can't you just let it be
(Am)(Em)
What does Cardiff have
(G)(C)
that makes you better than me

you're everywhere we go
your fleece white as snow
your grin a bit dodgy
and eyes a tad shifty
shiver my timbers boy
must be better than McCoy
why won't you ever go
however it pleases you so

{chorus two}
If I never come back to Wales I won't care
'cause I've got nothin' i need to declare
what you want me to prove
can't you just let it be
what did Cardiff do
that makes you better than me

{repeat verse one}

{repeat chorus one}

Can I Make You Dream

CAN I MAKE YOU DREAM
Maddie McGuire
(c) 2001 GirlMoon Music

Can I make you move
Can I make you sing
What can i make you do
can I make you dream

Can I make you look up
can I make you love
I could sound like that
if it would help all that

Can I make you wish
Can I make you smile
Can I make you want this
I've tried for awhile

I can pray and I can write
I can back down or stay and fight
I can run and I can jump
I can come by and pick you up
but I can't make you move
I can't make you sing
there's nothing I could do
I can't make you dream

I could try and I could sing
I could stop by and let you be
I could come and I could go
I could hide or show my soul
but I can't make you wish
I can't make yous smile
I can't make you want this
I've tried for awhile

California

CALIFORNIA
Maddie McGuire
(c) 2002 GirlMoon Music

(D)(A)
You owe me more than your whole life
(D)(Em)
'Cause that was the original price
(D)(A)
and you don't know the meaning of me
(D)(Em)
'cause I couldn't teach you to believe
(D)(A)
When California's too far away
(D)(Em)
I sat down when you asked me to stay
(D)(A)
But now you've changed your mind
(G)(A)
and that just does not seem right
(G)(Em)
but that's how it seems tonight

Tomorrow comes to bring a change
maybe take it back to the old days
I think you know what makes me feel like this
after all you're the one who called it
I think you know what I want to say
maybe your heart can be trained
to try and sway your mind
but that just doesn't seem right
and that's how it seems tonight

my knees they bleed from kneelin' down to you
I don't know the limit of what I'd do
to win back your heart when I gave you mine
I trick myself to think that I'll be fine
is California still too far away
tell me quick 'cause I'm leaving today
I used to be so blind
I see why you picked that fight
so farewell, I love you but goodbye

Bus '67 Delux

This is about a friend's old Volkswagen.

Fahrvergnugen!

BUS '67 DELUX
Maddie McGuire
(c) 2003 GirlMoon Music

Can you smell it from the other side
drifting over like a rising tide
and it gets harder as we run
the farther we go the less we've gone
it's just over one mountain range
too late now for our minds to change

{chorus}
It's freedom
in the night you know
walk to the northern lights
It's freedom
to the sky we go
and it becomes all right

If we drive just a little farther
and go in depth a little further
we'll find it at the end of the road
the reason why we picked up to go
it's strange and it's in our hearts
leavin' behind all our heavy parts

{repeat chorus twice}

Burn

BURN
Maddie McGuire
(c) 2001 GirlMoon Music

(G)(A)(D)
Whenever I see that smile
(A)(G)(A)
the moment lasts awhile
(D)(A)(G)
I hope it'll never be gone
(A)(D)(A)
that this'll never go wrong

{chorus}
(E)(G)
You'd make my life
(A)(D)
oh you'd make my day
(E)(G)
You'd make my night
(A)(D)
with the words you say

{refrain}
(G)(A)
You burn me up
(D)
You burn me
(G)(A)
You burn me up
(D)
you burn me

{repeat refrain}

Every now and then
you start all over again
I know that it's all true
one day you'll burn me too

{repeat chorus}

{repeat refrain twice}

Note: Capo on the 3rd fret, power chord formations.

Bull in Oklahoma

Err... true story. Need I say more?

BULL IN OKLAHOMA
Maddie McGuire
(c) 2004 GirlMoon Music

So I feel like hitch-hiking home
now that there's nowhere else to go
woke you up this morning just to say I love you
and that I rode a bull in Oklahoma
as I held on I only saw you
here I am at eight o'clock and all I want is you

not proud of everything I've done
I don't know why I did most of them
I know it made this life more fun
but I'll play it safer than I did back then

somewhere heading south out of Tulsa
I think I can see the sun rise soon
might have been a week since I saw you
but I should be out of Dallas by noon

I rode a bull in Oklahoma
and I lasted just as long as I needed to
now I'm walking back home to you
with just myself to give to you

Note: just keep playing D-A-D-A-C through the thing

Buck

BUCK
Maddie McGuire
(c) 2006 GirlMoon Music

One
the wind blows from the water
and your mind slips to a daydream

Two,
the sun starts to shrink below
and the arena lights start to gleam.
You could smell the dirt in your fingernails,
See the dust floor rise in this turmoil
Spinnin' around 'round with a twist of luck
up and down with every buck

Three,
you take a deep breath
pull the gloves on tighter if you can

Four,
wrap your legs in leather
grasp the horn inside your left hand
feel your heart start beating faster
hear the whole crowd get quieter
spinnin around with a twist of luck
up and down with every buck

five
beast moves 'neath you impatient

Six,
listening for the sound of the start

Seven
you're open on the arena floor

Eight,
time to see if you've got the heart
spinnin' around with a twist of luck
up and down with every buck

Break Me

BREAK ME
Maddie McGuire
(c) 2001 GirlMoon Music

(D)
Break me with the eyes of a human
(E)(A)
and I know this is gonna be hard
(D)
Because I have been in this position
(E)(A)
shot down and under the ocean
(D)
I'd never get a no-reason greeting card
(E)(A)
it would have been nice if you were a friends

(D)(E)(A)
The woods don't speak so loud if you're lost in them
(D)(G)(D)(A)
They won't tell you I was the first to see you weren't there
(E)(G)
and it never mattered much that I cared at all
(A)(D)(E)
There was always someone else standing above me there

I learned how to lose a friend when you broke my trust
and i don't understand what it is with me
but I close mine eyes and I still see you
and I can tell you know it's more than lust
and I don't think I want to be free
I will love you no matter what you do

(D)
you could rock me so nice
(G)
and shake me free
(A)
from all my old
(E)
memories
(D)
you could take me away so easily
(G)
but now I see
(A)
you don't care for me

I'm almost sick of this river
and longing for your water of life
and from the way you don't look at me
I know you don't want me to make it right

so let me go if you must do so
but I will hold tightly to your hands
and I will never let my heart go free
a ghra mo chroi my only good friend
and this voice is letting me know let go

Bound for Carolina

I was heading east for the Atlantic coast from the southwest United States, and somewhere in Alabama the train came to a complete stop and didn't move for another several hours. In the midst of wondering what was going on that had halted the Crescent Line I meandered up to the club car to socialize, and found it packed with a bunch of guys from Atlanta playing poker and smoking cigarettes.

BOUND FOR CAROLINA
Maddie McGuire
(c) 2007 GirlMoon Music

{chorus}
I wish I was bound for Carolina
all this long gone behind me
but how will they look at me
when I finally make it back to Carolina

The path's been long and winding
each passin' day and mornin' sun
brings somethin' that puts me farther away
from the crescent moon rising
over the waters of Charleston
and the small mountain breezes sat

{repeat chorus}

Little black books filled up with names
of old flames and I wish were here
when I need them to hold my hands
but I just wouldn't be the same
we've long since lost touch I fear
love me as a child leave me as a woman

{repeat chorus}

And the boys from Atlanta are crowding the club car
if only the distance were only that far
I could play a hand of poker with them
and forget about the smokin' ribbons

{repeat chorus}

Note: Had my guitar not been packed away in check I might have put at least chords to it, but that didn't happen so yeah. Either way the Boys from Atlanta liked the bridge.

Bottle of Smoke

Regardless of the fact that Bottle of Smoke is the name of a race horse this one is not, I repeat not, about a horse. I was sitting at a cafe filling up an empty bottle with the smoke from a box of matches.

BOTTLE OF SMOKE
Maddie McGuire
(c) 2005 GirlMoon Music

(Em)(G)
Could you flash me a smile
(Em)(G)
You've been lookin' on and off
(Am)(G)
For quite a long while
(Em)(G)
You've got this look of a ragin' sea
(Em)(G)
I see the waves on the inside
(Am)(G)
when you're lookin' at me

{chorus}
(G)(D)
But, I'm gonna finish my Merlot
(G)(D)
I'm gonna get up and go
(Am)(D)
then we're gonna walk away
(Em)(D)
in our separate ways

I really do have some things to do
and I've procrastinated
giving this chance to you
I've filled my own bottle of smoke
just waiting for you
I guess it's all a joke

{repeat chorus}

I'm dreamin' of faraway places
my wanderlust desire
for unfamiliar faces
But, I'll be back tomorrow
since now it's gettin' rather late
and I have got to go

{repeat chorus}

Boston

BOSTON
Maddie McGuire
(c) 2004 GirlMoon Music

There you are in black and pink
If I could say the things I think
Would you listen to me,
Come a little closer to hear me speak?
A shame that it's so far away
I like the way you look today
and Boston could never say
Words to swoon and sway.

Did your knees just go weak
When I caught you lookin' at me?
Don't mind me taking this seat
Don't mind me as I try to think.

{Chorus}
Soon you will leave and not return
And never once think of me
This thoughts your last
Forgotten memories, let them burn
A shadow in this old city
A stranger from the past

So here I am in gray and blue
I know I once locked eyes with you
I jerked away as I always do
'Cause Boston already has you

{repeat chorus}

Note: I never bothered to put chords down for this one, so just have fun

Bobby Cleary (Moonlight O'er Baghdad)

This is a story song about five friends who joined the military - from the point of view of the only survivor.

BOBBY CLEARY (MOONLIGHT O'ER BAGHDAD)
Maddie McGuire
(c) 2006 GirlMoon Music

(Em)(C)
This ol' moonlight o'er Baghdad
(Em)(C)
Makes me miss all that we had
(Am)
under moonlight and in the rain
(C)
In my Chevrolet just raisin' cane

Five young soldiers come home on leave
letting go of what no one would believe
two Army boys, three were sailors
Avoiding our duties and chores

(Em)(C)
under the boulevard's street lights
(Em)(C)
and I'm the only one left alive

Jason took on in the back in Mazar
the same damned place I got these scars
sometimes I still see his face at night
sometimes it wakes me with a fright

Jimmy lost his legs on Route Irish
climbed out of the wheelchair at the parish
all the papers still read of suicide
with the statue of Jesus at his side

Dylan lost touch until his wake in DC
and you, Bobby, taken my the sea.

{chorus}
(Am)(C)
A grown woman cries after all
(Am)(C)
even the hardest soldier takes a fall
(Em)(Am)
with the scars to show the world what they've known
(Am)(C)
I remember it rained that day
(Am)(C)
How you'd love this weather they'd say
(Em)(Am)
over closed caskets 'cause you can't be shown

we took your ashes up to the mountains
three thousand feet to the wind
over the valley and your hometown
almost saw your face in the clouds

I promise your memory to keep
Even if it keeps me from sleep
and when it rains over there in Iraq
I wish we, we were all back

safe and sound, me and you
cruisin' in my Malibu

{repeat chorus

Bobby

Not to be confused with the previous post.

BOBBY
Maddie McGuire
(c) 2004 GirlMoon Music

(E)(D)
I'm sittin' outside this coffee house
(E)(D)
that's playin' all my favorite tunes
(E)(D)
with you haunting the back of my mind
(E)(D)
the the past I've put into these old shoes

Can you really have an answer
for everything I've been asking for
since I didn't see you at all
when I wished you'd come to my door

{chorus}
(G)(D)
Oh, Bobby won't you sing something else
(G)(C)
a song that doesn't whisper my name
(G)(D)
it's all hitting a bit too close to home
(G)(C)
when my heart and mind never feel the same

You know it's so cold out here
so much colder than where I'm from
Cause I'll wait tonight under the moon
and I'll wait tomorrow under the sun

Why are you always so curt when you call
is there something you're not yelling to me
I'd like to know a little of everything
'cause you're where I wish to be

{repeat chorus}

Oh bless my heart and this caffeine
tell me it's just another day
tell me something to make me smile
while I'm at a loss for what to say

{repeat chorus}

BOB

BOB
Maddie McGuire
(c)2001 GirlMoon Music

(E)
Where you going
(C)(F#m)
God is calling
(E)
little brother walking
(C)(F#m)
you're turning away

(E)(C)(F#m)
known you for a long time now
(E)(C)(F#m)
seen you go up and go down
(E)(C)(F#m)
we all have our trials
(E)(C)(F#m)
listen to something else

{chorus}
(E)(F#m}
someone find Bob for me
(E)(F#m)
he's driftin' out of reach
(E)(F#m)
help Bob find what's right
(C)(F#m)
pray for Bob tonight

I know you feel lonely
but you've always got me
God is telling me
to say something to you

you could do so much with what you have
you could make us dance and make us laugh
there are so many who love you
so tell me what are you gonna do

{repeat chorus}

Blue Volvo

In the Volvo it was a real relationship; outside the care it was distant.

BLUE VOLVO
Maddie McGuire
(c) 2004 GirlMoon Music

(D/F#)(Cadd9)
Take me for a ride in your blue Volvo
(Csus2)(Cadd9)
let me tell you where I'd like to go
(Am)(G)
it's nowhere on this earth
(D/F#)(Cadd9)
but in your car I feel like I matter
(Csus2)(Cadd9)
when you show me that there's no other
(Am)(G)
I can still smell the myrrh

{refrain one}
(Am)(D/F#)
so feed me with your extra helpings
(Am)(D/F#)
let me grow up in your arms
(Am)(D/F#)
so whatever I write could you sing
(Am)(D/F#)
like pictures of stables and barns

{chorus}
(Am)
so roll me down
(F/D#)
the mountain
(G)
and take me to
(Cadd9)
the town

Now let's go shoot off my fireworks
I know some of my friends are jerks
I want you to love them too
'cause they're still part of my world
less important than this girl
and they won't hold my hand

{refrain two}
so read me from your favorite book
don't pretend I do not exist
I want to catch you giving me those looks
but why is public so different

{repeat chorus}

So love me in private only
you see how this is confusing me
your actions don't add out
you say one thing today then change it
and you never wanna talk about it
I never know what it's about

{repeat refrain one}

{repeat chorus}

take me for a ride in your blue Volvo
let me tell you where I'd like to go
it's nowhere on this earth

The Blue Ridge Mountains

THE BLUE RIDGE MOUNTAINS
Maddie McGuire
(c) 2003 GirlMoon Music

(G)(E)(C)
I wanna go back to the blue ridge mountains
(E)(G)(C)
I wanna go back to where I belong
(G)(E)(C)
I wanna go back to the blue ridge mountains
(E)(G)(C)
I wanna go all the way home

Where I grew up wadin' the Enoree
Where I found god deep in the forest
Where I found a love still there for me
how could I ever have been so blessed

So take me back to the old foothills
and take me on down to my home
let's go walkin' on the ol' woodland trails
where I know I'm never alone

I wanna sit atop that old familiar mountain
by the edge lookin' over the side
at the lake under that mountain
thinkin' if only I could fly

I wanna go home
to those blue ridge mountains
this place ain't for me
I miss those hills
Waco ain't for me
I miss those hills

Note: country punk, right.

Blue Fever

From my blue period.

BLUE FEVER
Maddie McGuire
(c) 2001 GirlMoon Music

(Cadd9)(Fadd9)
your fire you left to burn out so alone
(Cadd9)(Fadd9)
like a discarded rose you dried up your home
(Cadd9)(Fadd9)
and left it so dark, gloom-filled, alone
(G)(Em)
Blue fever

it used to be that I could fine you
when there was somethin' you could pull me through
but now I never know what to do
blue fever

you've changed somehow for better and worse
but I still see in you how you used to work
and all the memoirs just cause it to hurt
blue fever

{refrain}
and I'm sorry about all the times that I lied
a discarded thorn stuck in my mind
i remember when you were by my side
blue fever

I remember when you had a good heart
but dreams just led me to fall apart
when all you did was turn and depart
blue fever

I thought it was good, but i was wrong
this revelation it took too long
and you've just hit me with your song
blue fever

{repeat refrain}

Stede Bonnet

Look ma! A song about a pirate... sorta. It is about the place in which he died. Not sure why this one's not in alphabetical order like the others - oh well.

STEDE BONNET

Maddie McGuire

(c) 2002 GirlMoon Music

(G)(F)(D)(F)

Before these crowded streets on a midsummer's night

(G)(F)(D)(F)

This place where I met you in a different life

{chorus}

(G)(F)

hang me up on the gallows high

(D)(F)

display me for all to gaze upon

(G)

taken oh so willing to die

(D)(F)

for all the things we could have done

Before this haunted sea in this blowin' night wind
are you thinking of me out where all the stars end

So put me up like Bonnet before

view me in the pirate light clearly

before you forget me ever more

and forget what we could be

{repeat chorus}

You'll never see me by my deeds

they're rubies lost in the waves

sapphires of all my sunny days

you'll only see me in some painting

when they write out my name
and proclaim me to be slain

{repeat chorus}

Note - it's pretty much just G-F-D-F throughout except the chorus which is G-F-D-F-G-G-D-F. So just keep repeating throughout. In the style of Tallest man on Earth with ya' know pirate stuff.

Bitch Cigarettes

I think I wrote this song 'cause I was tired of people offering me things that I didn't even like.

BITCH CIGARETTES

Maddie McGuire

2005 GirlMoon Music

{refrain}

(B)(A)

I don't want none of that

(D)(A)

I don't want it close to me

(E)(A)

I don't want bitch cigarettes

(D)(A)

or bitch beer even for free

(B)

I don't want your phone number

(A)

or your dumb screen name

(D)

I don't want your cheap pick-up lines

(A)(E)

or your silly little bar games

{chorus}

(A)(D)

Gimmie something real

(E)(A)

something substantial

(A)(D)

something I can feel

(A)(E)

something worth while

I don't want your words

or empty promises

I don't want your cigarettes

or any of all of this

I don't want your kiss

I don't want your hands on me

I don't want your attention

or your fake sob stories

{repeat chorus}

{repeat refrain}

I don't want your number

so stop giving it to me

I do not want your kiss

so get your fucking hands off me

I don't want your email

or your dirty screen name

stop with the drunk pick-up lines

and annoying little bar games

{repeat chorus}

Note: okay, so it gets a little redundant after awhile, but if you play it loud enough no one will know.

Bing Crosby

BING CROSBY
Maddie McGuire
(c) 2009 GirlMoon Music

I'm gettin' tense from the traffic
these idiots don't know how to drive
I'm gettin' stressed from the bills
I barely make enough to stay alive
I just need a day for me
so I can put all my cares aside
just to calm down a little
and ignore this thing called life

{Chorus}
I'm stayin' in all day
just me and Bob and Bing
I just love the way he sings
it always seems
to make it all okay

I'm irked towards the boss
throwin' weight sittin' on his ass
if I could afford it I'd quit
stop biting my tongue unleash the sass
dump his work back on his desk
with a note sayin' "I've got stuff to do"
but that ain't gonna happen
at least not anytime soon

{repeat chorus}

My landlord wants my rent
my bank accounts in default
neighbor's been stalkin' me for weeks now
but I guess it's not his fault
the way that I dress

It's all been pilin' up
it's startin' to weigh me down
I caught myself hangin' my head
watchin' my feet hit the ground
but it's just stress

{repeat chorus}

Beautiful

Just to set the record straight this song is about a horse, okay.

BEAUTIFUL
Maddie McGuire
(c) 2003 GirlMoon Music

(G)(D)(E)
Your shadow's that old familiar silhouette
(G)(D)(A)
But it means so much more than that
(G)(D)(E)
Cowgirl rides her horse around the ring
(G)(D)(A)
Insanely focused on just one thing
(G)(D)(E)
intensely brighter than all the lights
(G)(D)(A)
hung up in the sky all night
(G)(D)(E)
so gnash your teeth get up and in
(G)(D)(A)
and if you fall always try again

(G)(D)(E)
Hold your breath and tense your body
(G)(D)(A)
when you know it's comin' soon
(G)(D)(E)
when you fly you glide so free
(G)(D)(A)
take a break to graze the moon

{chorus}
(E)
it's beautiful
(G)(D)
just like you
(A)
and everything you do
(G)(D)
and everything you've done
(A)
It's beautiful
(E)(G)
just like you

I see you and there's flames on my lips
and I can smell the touch of your fingertips
and for a moment you're hot and cold
never imagined you'd be so bold
crouched down and ready for the jump
pullin' me under then liftin' me up
plant your feet firm to the ground
and get ready for us to prance around

so give me a kiss and a smile
and just stand still for a time
even though it may seem awhile
relax and let the art forms shine

{repeat chorus}

(E)
And I'm still here
(G)(D)
Like I'll always be
(A)
to calm your fears
(E)(G)
do the same for me

{repeat chorus}

Be Mine

Yeah we broke up like a year later so whatever.

It's still cute though

BE MINE
Maddie McGuire
(c) GirlMoon Music

(D)
If you were my lifeguard
(A)
I'd swim around
(D)
then when you look at me
(C)
I might try to drown
(D)
just to steal a kiss when you're
(A)
Giving C.P.R.
(D)
if you'll be my truck
(C)
then I'll be your car
(D)
Baby, we could go
(A)
Far
(D)
Baby, we could go
(C)
Far

(D)
If you'll be my French roast
(A)
I'll be your Irish cream
(D)
if you'll be my shooting star
(C)
I'll be your shinin' gleam
(D)
If you'll be my stone walls
(A)
I'll be your Gibraltar
(D)
And I'd gladly play the horse
(C)
If you were my halter

(D)
and if you'll be the
(A)
Texas sky
(C)
then I will be the
(A)
Carolina rain
(D)
If you'll be my
(A)
Swiss Army knife
(C)
then I will be your
(A)
Cajun night life

If you'll be my sight
then I'll be your hands
If you'll be my nurse shark
I'll be Dr. Quinn
If you'll be my lighthouse
I'll never feel alone
and if you'll be my harbour
I'll be the sailor comin' home

if you'll be my
Rolling Stones
Then I will be your
Norah Jones
and I'll be a
San Antonio Spur
If you'll be a
Pittsburgh Steeler

(D)
Be mine
(A)
Be mine
(C)
Be mine
(A)
Be mine

Yes, I will watch
basketball
if you'll take me to
a hockey game
and if you'll be
my ocean
Then I will be
your hurricane

Be mine
Be mine
Be mine
Be mine

(D)
If you'll be my
(A)
muse
(D)
and my sparklin'
(C)
fuse

The Baylor Line Blues Song (The Thing is Still there)

Ah, the anthem for all Baylorites or something along those lines.

Sic 'em Bears!

THE BAYLOR LINE BLUES SONG (THE THING IS STILL THERE)
Maddie McGuire
2004 Girl Moon Music

(E)(D)
My guitar sits in the corner
(E)(D)
beggin' me to play
(A)(D)
I roll over and ignore it
(A)(D)
I'm too tired I'll say
(E)
but the thing is still there
(D)(A)
just callin' my name

the books are on the floor
I didn't ready today
If I desire to pick them up
then it will be okay
but the thing is still there
just callin' my name

{refrain one}
(E)(D)
Lay me down and let me sleep
(E)(A)
hold my hand my heart to keep

(E)(D)
can I be a good girl
(E)(D)
and still tell you how i feel today
(E)(D)
can I be a good catholic
(E)(D)
and still cast my vote this way
(E)
can I honour my heritage
(D)(A)
without dishonour to my heart
(E)
can I tell you all mys secrets
(D)(A)
without tearing us apart
(E)
and the thing is still there
(D)(A)
just callin' my name

I'm feezin' in the shadows
but I can see the light
I could reach out and touch it
but would it be right
and the thing is still there
just callin' my name

I'm soakin' in the streets
watchin' it rain all night
I could jump in and swim
then I would be alright
but the thing is still there
just callin' my name

{refrain two}
look at me and hold me tight
say my name kiss me good night

That good Ol' Baylor Line
That good Ol' Baylor Line
We'll march forever down the years
as long as the stars shall shine
We'll sling our green and gold afar
to light the ways of time
and guide us as we onward go
that good Ol' Baylor Line

Note: bluesy like the Delta and not Memphis, country, and a bit folk rock. I usually don't add the Baylor Line part unless in Waco.

Battle Spark

A shallow torpedo cuts a tuxedo meant something in 2002 but I don't remember what it is - i probably should have left that part out.

oh well.

{refrain}

(Em)(A)

(Em)(A)

{chorus}
(Em)(A)(Em)

(B)(A)(Em)
What are we fighting for
(B)(A)(Em)
addiction of a battle spark

there's no android

Baton rouge

she said she'd come from Lafayette
just this mornin' to start her school
she wasn't sure if she liked it yet
down here at L.S.U.

{repeat chorus}

she fluttered those lashes coyly
said to Baton Rouge she'd never been
the she looked directly at me
an' I said, "no worry my Cajun queen"

{repeat chorus}

Note: A bit rockin' sorta punk Cajun country, must be sung with the proper accent.

Bandless Gypsy

This is for all those lonely rovers out there.

Never did I find a place so nice

(G)(D)

(C)

a bandless gypsy

made hotel rooms i never wanted

wondered to find my way ahead

but I am eluded by fortune

never sure I ever wanted some

{chorus two}

I never really cared for

wealth and money

just faith love and health

like a bandless gypsy

been lookin' around a long time

I often wonder what I'll find

everything I'm lookin for

then I won't go lookin' any more

Bandera Road

BANDERA ROAD
Maddie McGuire
(c) 2010 GirlMoon Music

How can I form a sentence
when I can't even fall in love
without lookin' down the business ends
of bottles and saxophones
How can I make this make sense
when there's no stories to tell
when really nothing ever happens
for a girl in San Antone

{chorus}
It's likely that you will even if you say you won't
It's likely that you will even though I say don't

And nobody plays jazz no more
'cept weekend college stations
when everyone else is hungover
and I'm already two-hours in
punches on the clock, signs on the door
some schmuck said it's a fine time to open
son of a scratches on a paper
prayin' nobody else comes in

{repeat chorus}

Stuck behind a produce truck
drawing circles on your hand
starin' at what must be a joke
all creepy smiling and red
wonderin' when you'll run out of luck
always tappin the worn out brakes
in this busy stop and go
just tryin to not get rear-ended

{repeat chorus}

Everywhere I go people always seem to stare
(G)(D)
don't matter what I wear, they just stop and glare
(G)(D)
some out of fear and some out of lust
(G)(D)
some buy me beer while others just cuss
(G)(C)(D)
'cause they're not sure what they've just seen

I've been all over the world and everywhere i go
there's always one person who has to let me know
that I'm just too tall to really be a girl
and that freak shows like me are ruinin' the world
and I just let them think what they want to believe

(G)(D)
at times i am quiet and at times a mystery
(C)(D)
I'm just as pretty as anyone else you'll see
(G)(D)
and if you play your cards right I won't give you sex

I've been in parades, and I've been in the night clubs
I've been in pageants and drank in high society pubs
but that scene is really not for me
I'm not into glitter or strippers or snobby ancient queens
I'm Sarah Silverman, Huckleberry Finn with breasts
I'm Jessica Rabbit in jeans instead of a dress

People say I need to slow down and settle
find a nice husband and a suburb near Seattle
but I can fix my own car and drive the big tractor
I've run a marathon and climbed a fourteener
I'm the bitch American dyke
Goddess
Infamous risque lady
Badass
Lesbian universal

Note: Rock hard rock fast.

Lyric note. I've actually summited 10 14ers, not that much of a dyke, and no one has said "you're too tall to really be a girl" they just say things like "you are one tall lady" or "dayum you're tall"

Back to Enniskillen

Aye the ancestral home there, up in the north.

Honestly I prefer tropical beaches, and drinks with umbrellas in them.

But yeah.

It is cold up there. And, I reserve the right to not disclose what "I've made my pages, I've made my kills" means.

Enniskillen

I feel more empty now than
ever before
I don't feel like I could
take anymore
filled my hopes with
glory and fame
and forgot to fill my days
with the word
my mates and I never
feel the same
so they can't understand me
to the core

{repeat chorus}

chased dreams from Australia
to Boston
carryin' those old gates
of Enniskillen
the frost surrounds me
in America
something mystic
this Appalachia
But I still dream of
the Ulster rain
to see those northern
lakes again
for a day when good
spirits know 'ya
and all roads lead
to Fermanagh
no matter how dusty
I'll see you again
a promise is still a
promise to me
we'll dance and you'll sing
where've you been
when I run for you to
embrace me

note: folksy Irish rock ballad - ya' know.

The Back Halls

Ain't it nice when you help someone out and it actually works for the better? That hasn't happened since 2002.

THE BACK HALLS
Maddie McGuire
(c) 2002 GirlMoon Music

{refrain}
(Dsus4)(D7)(D)(Em)
She's climbin' out of this hole in her life
(Dsus4)(D7)(D)(Em)
She's dug too deep and realized
(Dsus4)(D7)(D)(Em)
How much she was affecting me
(Dsus4)(D7)(D)(Em)
and she said it was all on me

{chorus}
(E)(A/E)
I'm the only one who turned her over
(G)(G7)(G)
She said she'd fall if I wasn't there
(Dsus4)(D7)
When she's done she'll come on over
(D)(Em)(E)(A/E)
she said she fell when I wasn't there

A thousand people couldn't reach her
I could when I was there with her
ever since all this started
and she was left broken hearted

She wasn't afraid of telling me
when she did she hit her knees
and begged for me to help her
never knew someone cared for me

{repeat chorus}

{repeat refrain}

she swallows the light from the sun
and the warmth disarms her guns
she's no time to get back in
she's never going back again

Note: The chord progression on the verses is the same as the refrain. On the first refrain it is picked with archipelagos, the rest strummed in a moderate tempo (or change it up I don't care.)

Baby By My Baby

Oh the hilarious hijinks of rockabilly pregnancy test.

BABY BY MY BABY
Maddie McGuire
(c) 2005 GirlMoon Music

(G)
This can't be happening
(D)
Not here and not now
(G)
I know what I have to do
(D)
I just don't know how

{chorus}
(E)(G)
Baby by my baby
(D)(A)
Comin' at the wrong time
(E)(G)
Baby by my baby
(D)(A)
Nothin's fallin' in line

I fell to my knees
couldn't help but pray
never had as much faith
as I had today

{chorus two}
Baby by my baby
this one looks like a plus sign
Baby by my baby
fuckin' double pink lines

God, can you help me
i can't do this alone
I can't afford to
settle down or make a home

{repeat chorus and chorus 2}

Uh, honey,
we need to talk.

Note: Park Rockabilly, part rock, part whimsical. It's a joke song (sorta) so have fun with it.

Arms Of Italy

The person and place in time this song is about knows who they are, when and where, and we'll just leave it at that.

ARMS OF ITALY
Maddie McGuire
2004 GirlMoon Music

{verse one}
(E)(B)(E)
I dreamed last night I took a trip through these trees
(E)(B)(A)
When I woke up I found myself in Italy

Like someone's arms reaching out to take a hold on me
Like I woke up in the arms of Italy

Between you and me this twister in the room
though it may seem it's more than a game we do

so what's this taste on my lips it feels too soon
but I knew it the first moment I saw you

{chorus}
(E)(B)(A)
And you know I've got a closet full of fear
you understand that when I hold you near

and I wonder sometimes if we worship the same God
or if the surface is all we've got

but mama said that this still water runs deep
can we show what these brown eyes have seen

you can come a little closer to sneak a peak
as deep and as dark as it all may seem

{repeat chorus}

so I'll dance with you a couple times more
just to find the answers behind closed doors

{repeat chorus}

{repeat verse one}

Arkansas

Isn't it so annoying when you're stuck in the car with only one other person, and the entire length of Arkansas they're talking on their cell phone.

Like - oh my gawd, I know, right.

ARKANSAS

(G)
Hang up your mobile phone
(C)
I'm talking to you
(G)
We're driving through Arkansas
(C)
All the way through

It's like this you see
I don't know why I stay
you won't even notice me
no matter what I say

My bible has coffee stains
I needed an extra boost
my efforts are all in vain
'Cause I can't get through

(G)(C)(D)
I waited while you danced with her
(C)
I said nothing
(G)(C)(D)
I just tapped my foot and gazed at the sky
(C)
it's still hurting

It's like this you see
my pen runs out of ink
I should just let it be
but I've been writing all week

So hang up your mobile phone
I've got somethin' to say
we're drivin' through Arkansas
Don't ignore me the whole way

I've got one right left to speak
you treat me like you do
'cause you don't even think
i might fall out of love with you

(Am)(F)

(C)(Am)(F)

(C)(Am)(F)
I can't leave the mountain
(Am)(F)
I shouldn't listen to you
(Am)(F)
Or watch what you do
(C)(Am)(F)
to my Appalachian Heart

{chorus}
(Am)(C)(Am)(F)
Did you mean to hold me down
(C)(Am)(D)(F)
or did you just want to hold
(Am)(C)(Am)(F)
Make me like everyone around
(C)(Am)(D)(F)
all common and so cold

You should come with warnings
doesn't play well with things
that you don't understand
take a break this morning
see the difference
I'm holding suspense
in my Appalachian heart

{Repeat Chorus}

Did you make these plans
to make it all bland
to take it all apart
What you see as untamed
I know I don't fit in
Can't really help it
with me Appalachian heart

Notes:
The verses are simple strum patter (Am) one two three (NC) four (F) one two (NC) three four x2 then (C) one two (Am) three (NC) four (F) one two (NC) three four. The chorus picks up pace but is as simple: (Am) one and-a two and-a (C) three and-a four and-a and so on.

American Youth

You figure it out. I'm allowed to make up words if I want.

AMERICAN YOUTH
Maddie McGuire
(c) 2005 GirlMoon Music

Outside
in the sky
the sun goes down in a burnin' flame
inside
solidified
you go down in much the same
I speak
word of the week
glass goes down wind comes in
Outside
it's genocide
as we go down to hit the streets
inside
consciouscide
and back to town to waste the week
outside
it's homicide
we're too busy to see the spark
inside
preoccupied
playin' 'neath sheets in the dark

{chorus}
Blinded by cigarettes
the opposite sex
music and movies
and apathy
when the dust clears
where'd the world go
all fallin' down
and we didn't know

outside
in the sky
jets soar over the desert
inside
pacified
suckin' on some plastic insert
i say
it starts today
turn from the television
outside
it's librecide
and it's nowhere near done
inside
it's suicide
if we just let whatever come
outside
petrified
by the bombs and the refuge
inside
terracide
creating more bullets and fumes

{repeat chorus twice}

Note: I never laid an chords down for this so have at it, but it's supposed to be fast paced rock

Consciouscide - destruction of one's individual thought.
Librecide - destruction of freedom
Terracide - destruction of the Earth

America

I write politico mumbo-jumbo too. This United States while still be frustrated where it appears the country was heading. As I wrote it in 2004 it seems as though I might have been right at the time.

Don't you forget why
Don't forget where you've been before

America, my mother and child
(G)(D)
How will we remember you
(G)(D)
America, I love you too

[America]
what are you to be
[America]
will you stay free
don't anger God and don't anger man
[America]
What is your plan

[America]
I still salute you
[America]
Though you've put me through
emotions I never knew I had
[America]
Don't make me so sad

{repeat chorus}

Note: Played with capo on the second fret - not quite Dylan or Cohen, not nearly Creedence.

Amanda

Sometimes I write songs about my friends. Especially when they say something to someone else that you said even though the whole thing was made up.

Sorry.

I'm over it now.

I don't even remember what was said.

I'd never say that about you
(C)(D)
I don't know what she told you, friend
(Bm)(Em)
and I don't understand

(G)(D)
I can't see why you're mad with me
(C)(G)
I'm not sure how to get it out
(G)(D)
I'd never do something like that
(C)(G)
So tell me what it's really about

when you pass me in the hallway
do you turn to see if I saw you too
I guess we have to talk some other day
'Cause I can't get a response from you

Another day of total nonsense
I've cooled off enough to talk
the cause is no where to be seen
let's just go for awhile
I dunno what she told you friend
and I don't understand

I don't need this misery
I know that you don't either
Let's see what we could do
maybe talk to each other
I dunno what she told you, friend
I'm trying to understand

Note: Played with capo on the second fret.

Always on Tuesday

We were heading down to Charleston for a show at the Dock Street Theatre, and for one reason or another everyone was pissed off at each other, and I was in the back milling around with the trees as they passed by the window at 75 mph as I was distracting from the bullshit flying across the band by some other bullshit going on. Anyway, after the show everything was honky-dory, but I didn't write a song then. I wrote it before.

Been awhile since you looked at me this way
(C)(Am)
Since you smiled, since you let me say

You can't see me when you're blind

(Em)(Am)
why is it always on Tuesday

You'll never hear what you won't let me say
don't come here talkin' about some change
from where I stand it's still all the same
only two days passed going insane

{repeat chorus}

{Refrain Two}
I can't see you in the dark
I can't feel you so far away
I've lost your beating heart
Why is it always on Tuesday

Always

Even though I wrote this many years before the previous post we'll just go ahead and say it is repentance for the vulgarity of the last one.

Okay that might be a stretch.

Wrote it on the beach in Oranjestad. I think I was projecting.

As the ocean spray celebrates her
the band plays at the restaurant
as the waves splash upon her
she has everything she wants

{Chorus}
(E)(D)(E)(C9)(B7)(E)
She wants to always be with you
[she wants to always be with you]

she smiled contently when you hold her
close to you wrapped in your arms
you feel like you could protect her
and save her from any harm

{repeat chorus}

as you thank God for the life in her
you know you're her biggest fan
and you thank God for watching her
and you hold her close again

{repeat chorus}

Note: Play the B7 and C9 with the "e" and "B" strings open. It's an acoustic song really, and easy going. The kind of song that when it begins it makes all the boys hug the wall in a middle school dance.

All the Girls of Okinawa

I'm not sure I want to tell the story behind this one. Just don't let your parents or children read and/or listen.

It's really only appropriate in Navy bars and Irish pubs.

In the morning when we wake up
(G) (F)
You promise me I didn't screw up
(C) (G)
that you'll love me forever
(F)
write me every day
(G) (F) (C)
Even though I'm goin' to a land so far away

{chorus}

Note: play it loud play it fast, and probably to a drunk audience. The parts in quotes are for a guy to sing or a girl if you do that. I don't judge - clearly. anyway! Slows down a bit with the morning part but then picks right back up into the chorus.

All That Good

To be honest I don't remember what was going in the noggin when I wrote this ten years ago. I know where I was and it's hard to believe that was ten years ago.

ALL THAT GOOD
Maddie McGuire
2001 (c) Girl Moon Music

(G5) (D5)
I never had it all that good
(E5)
But I think that I could
(G5) (D5)
If I could have you here
(E5)
holding me so dear

(G) (D)
I never had it all that good
(E) (G)
but I think that I could
(G) (D)
If I could have a little more
(E) (G)
without getting you bored

{chorus}
(G5) (D5)
I never had it all that good
(G) (C5)
But I think that I could
(E) (G5)
I think that I should
(D) (E5)
I think that I would
(G) (C) (G5)
Work to make everything good

I never had it all that good
but I think that I could
if i could find a friend
to stay until the end

I never had it all that good
but I think that I could
if I could have you hear
holding me so dear

{repeat chorus}

Note: a little pop-punk all stars and a little Oneders (if you get the reference props)

All Over Rhode Island

If you stick around long enough you'll see I have at least one song for all fifty states.

All Over Rhode Island
2006 GirlMoon Music

(G) (D) (A)
So i like to stand in the rain
throw my arms out and spin around
a good break from being sane
and fed up with everything

So I like to stand in the rain
or lay out on this wet ground
helps me forget about pain
and gives hope to everything

{chorus}
(G) (D) (E) (A)
Would you stand in the rain with me
(E) (D) (A)
All over Rhode Island
(G) (D) (E) (A)
You look at me like I'm deranged
(E) (D) (A)
C'mon, take me by the hand
(G) (D) (A)
so maybe I'm a bit strange
(E) (D) (G) (A)
But would you stand in the rain with me

So I like to sing to myself
or when I'm alone scream out loud
sick of staying on the top shelf
in the closet behind everything
maybe I like to sing to myself
would you sing if you were around
don't you like to sing to yourself
and dream big and everything

{repeat chorus}

I like to be outside
I know it feels alright
let's do something insane
and go dance in the rain

{repeat chorus}

Alaska

I've written a few songs about Alaska, the wilderness and the vast stretches of ground where no person would be is so romantic in the classic sense of the word.

This is just one about getting away and starting anew. Though to be honest I'd probably freeze to death.

ALASKA
Maddie McGuire
2004 GirlMoon Music

(E)
Let's run away to Alaska
(A)
It's so nice up there in the star shine
(G)
We'll buy a boat up in Juneau
(A)
put fish on the table - it'll be fine

Let's run away to Alaska
by the fire when winter comes in
cuddled up together
warm and never parting again

{chorus}
(E)
Let's run away
(A)
not look back today
(G)
start a new life so to say
(D) (A)
I'll love you for the rest of my days

let's get away from here
the epic of our lives
as far north as Nome
in awe of aurora's lights

Let's get away from here
we'll get a sled when it snows
build huts for the dogs
I just know we need to go

{repeat chorus}

Let's run away to Alaska
it's a place we need to go
i want to share it with you
the sun the stars the snow

let's run away to Alaska
The sunlight all night and day
cuddled up together
sailin' out on the bay

{repeat chorus}

Note: There's no music until the first "Alaska" is sung when everything comes in at once, pure poprocks and diet cola.

Alabama Comin' Fast

I wrote this one one I-20 heading towards Alabama goin' about 10 over the posted speed limit and mentally working out some issues leftover from the previous month; I just couldn't get out of Mississippi fast enough.

You try driving with a piece of paper on the steering wheel with a pen in one hand. Every time I dotted an "i" HONK!

On second thought, don't try it.

Alabama Comin' Fast
Maddie McGuire
2003 GirlMoon Music

(G) (D)
I can see Alabama comin' fast
(C) (A)
I just need to outrun these police
(G) (D)
I think about all these months past
(C) (A)
and drive more to find release
(G) (D)
I can imagine that you'll laugh
(C) (A)
when I tell this story again
(G) (D)
Don't wanna think, just wanna get back
(C) (A)
'Cause I can't express how it's been

{chorus}
(G) (D) (C) (G) (D) (A)
And, I thought that I saw you turnin' the corner in Birmingham
(G) (D)
drivin' away to the back of my mind
(G) (D) (C) (G) (D) (A)
And, I thought that I saw you place an order in Birmingham
(G) (D)
for an apartment in my mind

I can see Alabama comin' fast
but I'm runnin out of gas
I might get through 'fore noon
I'm just tryin' to drive on past
I can imagine that you'll smile
When I tell this story to you
'Cause it's been too long awhile
since I've been here with you

{repeat chorus}

Note: simple rock-pop with a bit of a driving rhythm to get the need for speed going.

Abraham

This was a little exercise in the frustrations I was experiencing with what was being taught in history classes, and what I was reading in the books, and what I was hearing people say about some things. To the victor goes the spoils or course. Of course this song or type of song seems to take more relevance with the Texas Board of Education's movement to remove Thomas Jefferson from the curriculum.

Anyway, it's clearly about the American Civil War, and how different people look at it, and how different people still have different opinions about the thing, and the major players involved. I hold no swat towards one or the other except that I'm all for state's rights. The illustrations with the above mentioned war are just examples - this sort of thing happens in every community and with every conflict.

Or it's about some guy in the Old Testament and how some people view him differently than what is taught in Sunday school.

Either one works.

Also about how often any statement differing from what is taught is so quickly shot down as blasphemy.

Don't hate me 'cause I'm open-minded.

Abraham
Maddie McGuire
2002 GirlMoon Music

{Refrain}
(G)
How did you paint Abraham
(D) (G)
A saint from a human man
(D) (G)
is it true, is that what you would do
(D) (G)
think, oh I beg just think it through

{Chorus}
(G) (D)
It's not about that now
(G) (D)
but baby it will be
(G)
calm down calm down
(D)
and listen to me

Go on and tell me what to believe
what they taught you in school
regurgitate what's in all those books
oh, ain't they all so cool

you must know you fired the shot
was it windy, rainin; or hot
you must know who started the fight
and if the old fable was retold right

how did they paint what they please
what are men such as these
must be another one attempting
another tone to outsound me

{repeat chorus}

go on tell me what to think
did your kids pass that school
splitting up what's in those books
oh, ain't they all so cool

you must know to the victor goes the day
is it true or false these things they say
you must know who started the war
and all that was done before

{repeat refrain}

(repeat chorus}

Note: Sometimes I play this as a luau folk song with the capo on the fifth fret which is what the chords above are specified for, but I recommend this one for jivers (just strum a bit differently and be creative with the melody) or for rockers who wanna jump around - lower the key if you're gonna do that last one please.

Also, outsound and jivers are real words so phphphph.

A Valentine's Day

So, it's a few months late, but as I said some of these are going to alphabetical for awhile.

Anyway, here's a love song.

A Valentine's Day
Maddie McGuire
2004 GirlMoon Music

(E) (D) (A)
Still water runs deep and speaks softly
(E) (D) (G)
still i dwell on what to be
(E) (D) (A)
What do you see when you see me
(E) (D) (G)
I'm just someone you called a stranger
(E) (D) (A)
I'm just a girl, chip on my shoulder
(E) (D) (G)
Just girl wonder all torn asunder
(E) (D) (A)
just a drafter with a simple plan
(E) (D) (G)
I'm just the girl you called a friend
(E) (D) (A)
But I'm the one now holding your hand

Oh, you know you're much too kind
you're the best that I could ever find
you make it right 'fore you leave me behind
hug me after you've walked away
though I don't really know what to say
someday we'll follow each other's way
what was it that you had said
a broken record in my head
Can't see straight must be beet red

there were times i was so outnumbered
there are those times i am not so sure
but you hold the cure for this bother
though I am not at the helm
Trust in God and all is well
the bells ring as my heart swells
did you have a nice valentine's day
there's still so much I need to say
but it's gonna wait for another day

Note: folksy sorta along the lines of The Carpenters but add a little Maroon 5 if you feel like it.

A Comedy on the Falls of Stars

I was listening to a lot of Dylan in 2001. It shows.

Also I think I was drunk at the time.

Actually, it's a comedy about all of the above.

A Comedy on the Falls of Stars
Maddie McGuire
2001 GirlMoon Music

(D)
I've said too much
(D)
I've seen the censors
(G)
Blind in the eye
(D)
I've quoted some people
(G)
"I've quoted myself" said I
(D)
I've made things wrong
(G)
seen wrong and made it right
(C)
and now the stars will fall tonight
(D)
the stars will fall tonight

I've broken lamps
I have seen the light
and dimmed it too
I've been evil
I've made the sex
with plenty more than you
I've seen the old
sneezed on it to renew
tonight I'll see what the stars'll do
I'll see what the stars will do

I have lied
when I was honest
through my teeth
I have cried
when it's the only way
you'll let me speak
I have seen death
but only to the strong and weak
come see stars washed up on the beach
washed up on the beach
come see stars washed up on the beach
washed up on the beach

Note: Played with the capo on the 3rd fret, soft and somber like a lullaby, and very folksy. Though I have tinkered with putting on so much distortion and volume that you can't understand the words and turning it into a metal thing. Not that you can understand the words when you hear them either...

In hindsight: I wrote it about Hamlet.

A Child Shall Lead Them Through

So, for awhile at least they may be in alphabetical order as some of my songs and poems have already been collected in two 3" binders.

This one is about a couple who are trying to solve their problems, and think the baby will make it all better.

A Child Shall Lead Them Through
Maddie McGuire
2002 GirlMoon Music (Anyone know how to make the copyright symbol)

{Verse One}
(D) (G)
Morning comes with a sunny rain
(A) (E)
Devil in the diamond is going insane
(D) (G)
He says I've got to get out
(A) (E)
I've got to get out of this cage

An Angel comes on silver lace
curly hair fallin' in her face
she says I don't want to be
doesn't wanna be alone in this place

{Chorus}
(D) (G)
They don't know where they're going
(D) (A)
it's like they've done this all before
(D) (G)
but they're never sure what to do
(D) (G)
Never sure of what they're doing
(D) (A)
Not sure of what they want anymore
(D) (E)
but a child shall lead them through

Morning comes aft' a starry night
a revelation in amongst the fright
they have got to break out
break out with all their might

{Repeat Chorus}

(Repeat Verse One}

Note:
The chords are really easy and played in basic rhythm a la the style popular amongst pop-rock acts of the late 90s and early 00s. A lot of that crap came out of Dallas if you want a point of reference. It's a little rock and a little pop, but the ease of the chords leaves plenty of room to mess around with it so go nuts.
