Your Father Fills Coffins

YOUR FATHER FILLS COFFINS
Maddie McGuire
(c) 2011 GirlMoon Music

Your father fills coffins,
That's why he is not here.
He does it for you,
So you may live without fear.
Your father fills coffins,
More or less in the way,
Of cowboys and coppers,
In these modern days.

{chorus}
Everything in life,
Must come with a price;
Others have it nice,
While some sacrifice.
This is a life,
And it comes at a price.

Your father fills coffins,
From way up in the air,
With bombs and with bullets,
Like he just doesn't care.
Doesn't have to see the faces,
Doesn't have to hear their cries.
Your father fills coffins,
With rockets from the skies.

{repeat chorus}

Your father fills coffins,
And that's the way it is,
Then he goes out drinking,
So he can deal with all this.
Gets up every day to save the world
From going up in a flame.
Your father fills coffins,
With those who do the same.

{repeat chorus}

Your father fills coffins,
For better or worse,
That's why he is not here,
He knows that it hurts.

Your father fills coffins,
Nearly every single day,

Your father fills coffins,
You might do the same...

Hattiesburg Hop

HATTIESBURG HOP
Maddie McGuire
(c) 2006 GirlMoon Music

I ain't gonna make a fortune,
'Cause singing' all these tunes,
And playin' all these songs,
Is taking way too long,
to get my ends to meet.

I'm not livin' for the money,
It wasn't meant for me.
I just need the groove,
To make me move,
And tap my feet.

{chorus}
It's the Hattiesburg Hop.
The Hattiesburg Hop.
It's the Hattiesburg Hop.
The Hattiesburg Hop.
Don't let it stop.

I don't expect to live forever,
I don't want to regret ever,
So I've got my guitar,
And I've got my car,
Though they're broken into this.

I don't think ill find fame,
But you might remember my name,
I know I ain't the best,
I sure as hell ain't the rest,
And I know I'll never quit.

{repeat chorus}

Hardscrabble Peak

HARDSCRABBLE PEAK
Maddie McGuire
(c) 2007 GirlMoon Music

(F)(C)(F)(E)
Baby don't pretend to understand,
How I get when life gets bland,
I get bored as do my hands,
Sometimes I need to climb,
The untamed mountain,
For some peace to find.

{chorus}
(F)(C)(E)
Sometimes I need the wild horses,
Sometimes I need the wild river,
Sometimes I need the wild horses,
That shan't be tamed, ever.

Baby, I'm goin' off alone,
Not runnin' away from home,
Just turnin' off my phone,
At the summit to seek,
The story off my life,
Atop Hardscrabble Peak

{repeat chorus}

This ain't the place for me,
Same old ain't no way to be,
I'm goin' off to be a little free,
Something to see new today,
Just to make my own way.

{repeat chorus

Hamlet and Vinegar Tom

HAMLET AND VINEGAR TOM
Maddie McGuire
(c) 2002 GirlMoon Music

(A)
Sometimes you called me a student,
(E)
Sometimes you called me a friend,
(A)
But it seems as though this time is spent,
(E)
'Cause the year always comes to an end.
(A)
Ya' know I called you a teacher,
(E)
While you called me a friend.
(A)
A memoir of our times together,
(E)
Made with only my hands.

(A)(E)
It's set in stone, but built of wood;
(A)(E)
The shows we've done - some were good.
(A)
All the work until it's done,
(E)
But the show must go on,
(A)(E)
The show must go on.

(Am)(C)
What did you say when we missed today?
(Em)(C)
If there were a way to Galway Bay,
(Am)
Would you have sailed to help my hands?
(Am)(C)
There are things I know, I can't let you go.
(Em)(C)
All of Greenwood knows what mine eyes have shown;
(Am)
The heart of a broken woman.

So free mine eyes or free my life.
Did you hear my cries back at my side?
Like, the last time my town was bombed,
I'm the good girl who's hard to find,
What I learned this time, these are friends of mine,
Good Hamlet and Vinegar Tom.

{chorus}
(Am)
I'm my drunken rage
(C)
I drove home safe.
(Em)
Sorry to scare you so.
(Am)
But, you don't know,
(C)
All that I know,
(Em)
Sorry to scare you so.

And when I'm sloshed it turns you off,
So ignore the watch and write it off,
When you read it you'll melt inside.
My heart changes beats like i change my sheets,
Not once a week like the tone of my cheek,
Not as often as I should or might.

I can be mean though my heart is green;
A truth somewhere 'tween in all the heat,
I should have said this a long time ago.
Look into my soul, do I feel this old?
But, as I told never before felt so cold,
I'm sorry I could not let you know.

{repeat chorus twice}

Note: Fast-paced and a bit rocky. Capo on the 2nd fret.

Hair of the Dog

HAIR OF THE DOG
Maddie McGuire
(c) 2008 GirlMoon Music

(G)(D)
Did I really do what I think I did?
(A)(D)
Might need a year just to clear my head
(G)(D)
Did I really drink as much as I think I did?
(A)(C)
I'm not sure, but I know this ain't my bed.

Did I really do what I think I did?
Did I spread my legs and let him in?
Did I really do what I think I did?
Musta been th' alcohol thinkin'.

I think I might need another cigarette,
Or have a beer for breakfast instead.
Bite the hair of the dog so I can think.
Next time I'm buyin' my own damn drinks.

Now, I'm really not this easy.
No one's ever gone this fast with me.
That beer was a little more than fizzy,
And he's two hundred pounds too heavy.

I don't want to be mean or anything,
But how did this guy ever get me?
I better run 'fore he gets out of bed.
Shit! My keys, they're in his hand.

Did I really do what I think I did?
Might need a year just to clear my head.
Did I really drink as much as I think I did?
I'm not sure, but I know this ain't my bed.

Note: This never actually happened. It is a joke song, and thus should be played with an air of whimsy.

Greenville

GREENVILLE
Maddie McGuire
(c) 2005 GirlMoon Music

(Fadd9)
Sing about me in that song,
(Cadd9)(G)
The one I haven't heard in so long,
(Fadd9)
You hid it away in your heart
(Cadd9)
So I cannot take it apart
(G)
Go back to your piano
(Fadd9)(Cadd9)
So your voice will let me know.

(Fadd9)
Play out the song in your head
(Cadd9)(G)
With your pale hesitant hands

(Fadd9)
Let me know what you think of me
(Cadd9)
And what happens when I leave
(Fadd9)
Do you want me to return still
(G)
Or stay away from Greenville

Look at me and smile
Staring past me all the while
I still long for that tender touch
But I fear that'd be too much
My heart stopped beating fast
I'd put you in the past

But, I'm still holding on
So tell me what is going on

Let me know what you think of me
And what happens when I leave
Do you want me to return still
Or stay away from Greenville

Great White Horse

GREAT WHITE HORSE
Maddie McGuire
(c) 1999 GirlMoon Music

(D)
My love he dreams in presence,
(C)
Always stuck in the present tense,
(G)
So tie the jib and main sail
(D)
When it gets too rough he can't bail
(C)
The storm is always worse in water
(G)
When I wish that he would call me clever

When everyone shares a name
And everyone wins the same game
The chipmunk sand a blue, "So long"
And now the cat has got your tongue
Look at all the things love is starving
Don't you wish you were here living

My feet have betrayed myself
Take monkey from back, place on shelf
Remember the last time that it snowed
When he warmed the red right off my nose
And the world appeared to be so small
Stuck inside away from my anthem call

Saddle up when he finds the shore
Rides in now on his great white horse
Hail Mary, be with us sinners
My love can't see me fading
Ignoring me while he's singing.

Goodbye John

This was written upon the death of Pope John Paul II

GOODBYE JOHN
Maddie McGuire
(c) 2005 GirlMoon Music

(Em)(A)(Em)(A)
The rosaries callin' from across the seas,
(Em)(A)(Em)(B)
The flames are dancin' in this breeze,
(Em)(A)
And the masses are kneelin' down,
(Em)(B)
While the candles never blow out,
(Em)(Am)(Em)
Goodbye John, you served us well.

I remember when I was a child,
I'd see you in front of the whole crowd,
Blessings from the waving hand,
In tongues I did not understand.
Goodbye John, you served us well.

You lead us through the worst of times,
And we always made it out alright,
And I fear the worst to come,
Now that you have gone,
Goodbye John, you served us well.

Might I ask you to say one last prayer,
Pray for me before you leave here,
Pray for me before you go,
And all the things I've yet to know.
Goodbye John, you served us well.

John Paul take all our hands,
And make you ascent to heaven,
Tell God I'd like to believe,
To put your faith into me.
Goodbye John, you served us well.

Good Morning, Jose (Ode to Cuervo)

Through the verses their really aren't any chords, it's finderpicked and slids and all that fun stuff. I'll put that kind of stuff up here when I figure out how, but in the meantime:

GOOD MORNING JOSE, (ODE TO CUERVO)
Maddie McGuire
(c) 2005 GirlMoon Music

Layin' in my bed,
Tryin' to clear my head,
But I cannot get up yet.
The sun shines on through,
And reflects off of you,
And I don't know what to do.
Face feels burnin' red,
And I can't lift my lids,
Is it even afternoon yet?
I rise up to my feet,
And I squint to see,
You starin' right back at me.

(A)(B)
Good morning, Jose
(A)(B)(E)
You're an empty bottle by the door,
(A)(B)(E)
And I'm the sleeping girl on the floor.

Good morning, Jose,
I think it's about time I went home,
But I don't want to get up and go.

Sleepin' full clothed,
the door is locked and closed,
And I wonder do they know.
We finished you off at two,
There was nothing else to do,
And now I can't fine my shoes.

Good morning, Jose,
You're an empty bottle on the floor,
And I'm the pretty girl on the floor.

Good morning, Jose,
I will close the blinds and sleep,
For just this company to keep.

I just want to pray,
For a happy day,
And the right words to say.
My eyes open wide,
And up I climb,
To sleep more and subside
Sleepin' fully clothed,
The door locked and closed,
My eyes shut and my heart rate slows,
I'll just stay right here 'til noon,
'Cause there's nothing else to do,
And it's all thanks to you.

Good morning, Jose,
You're an empty bottle by the door,
And two shot glasses on the floor,
Good morning, Jose.
Good morning, Jose.

Good Morning

GOOD MORNING
Maddie McGuire
(c) 2005 GirlMoon Music

(D)(A)(G)
I never woulda thought,
(G)(Bm)(D)(A)
Someone like you,
(D)(A)(G)
Would ever even see,
(G)(Bm)(D)(A)
Someone like me,
(D)(A)(G)
But as I walked in,
(G)(Bm)(D)(A)
Could instantly see.
(D)(A)(G)
You just sitting there,
(G)(Bm)(D)(A)
Smilin' in that chair.

I say hello,
And introduce myself.
You stand and start to talk,
And I could see,
The way you're built,
And the way you walk.

Over to the kitchen,
for a shot of Bourbon,
Then you say,
Let us get away.
I think I want more,
Than just one night.
We drive these streets,
On a starlit night.

(Bm)
I think all this
(D)(C)
Is a fright,
(G)(Bm)(D)(C)
Mixed feelings go in.
(G)(Bm)(D)(C)
Mixed feelings come out,
(G)(Bm)(D)(C)
And I don't really know,
(G)(Bm)(D)(C)
What it's all about.

So good morning,
I feel good about myself.
You smile so casually,
And I could see,
That you just proved,
You're heavenly.

Good As Gold

GOOD AS GOLD
Maddie McGuire
(c) 2001 GirlMoon Music

{first verse}
(G)
Ever for the changing,
(A)
But my word is good as gold.
(G)
Salute to my everything,
(A)
And fight off the frigid cold.

(G)
You've taken me,
(D)
You've taken me now.

Tried to find another,
But it's only you I'll hold.
There's no such other,
No one could ever be so bold.

Now take my hand,
Promise me the sky,
Tell me it all revolves,
Around my two eyes.

You've taken me,
You've taken me now.

{repeat first verse}

Goliath

GOLIATH
Maddie McGuire
(c) 1999 GirlMoon Music

(C)(D)(B)
He sit on your throne,
(C)(D)(B)
The all-powerful king,
(C)(D)(B)
Burnin' down your home
(C)(D)(B)
Cuttin' off your wings
(C)(D)(B)
And it makes him so happy to see everyone fall.

He will watch us fall,
Like the fools that we are,
He will find me face down,
Chokin' on my own hear,
Because I cared and gave away everything and all.

I will cry as I choke,
But my tears have power,
From them there will grow
a tall and proud red flower
Try as he might he can never make it fall.

Give it Time

GIVE IT TIME
Maddie McGuire
(c) 2005 GirlMoon Music

(D)(E)(A)(D)(A)(E)
Sometimes sleep sounds like a good idea,
But I don't want to go to bed just yet.
'Cause I will be lonely when I leave here,
And I am not that tired yet.
I think I just need someone to listen,
Amazing how much better that makes you feel.
And, I can't sleep with misunderstanding,
Though I know it's just a slump in this hill.
My rooms are dark like that midnight sky,
Like they don't even know I exist.
I'm just lookin' for a place that feels right,
Not for an entry in not for the exit.

(G)(D)(A)
I could be stronger, this I know.
It could take longer than it shows,
But that's alright, it'll be fine,
Just give it a night, give it time.

I wanna play my guitar all night,
For someone who likes my songs,
I'm lookin' for another chance to try;
Not long enough, but I I tried too long,
Don't worry about me, big brother,
I'll be fine sometime tomorrow.
Still in the absence of clover,
But in the absence of sorrow,
I wish I could see Aurora down here.
It seems to make life a bit more sweet.
I wish I could let go of my fear,
And find someone remarkable to meet.

I should go to sleep, this I know.
My promises to keep, I should go,
And by morning I'll be fine,
Come Monday morning, give it time.

The Girl I Am

This is about as country as country gets.

THE GIRL I AM.
Maddie McGuire/Boudreaux Roz
(c) 2004 GirlMoon Music/Roztaffarian Music

(G)(Em)
I'm outside sittin' 'neath the moon,
(G)(D)
With a Guinness in my hand.
(G)(Em)
I don't wanna see you anytime soon,
(G)(D)
Just let me be the girl I am.

I'm lookin' up just to see the stars,
I'm lookin' down just to pray.
I'm up in the air above all these cars,
Crossin' all these old highways.

{chorus one}
(G)(D)
So, I'm gonna smoke my Marleboro Red,
(G)(D)
And try to clear my spinnin' head.
(G)(Em)
And, When I do come back inside,
(G)(Em)
I'll shake your hand and say goodbye,
(G)(D)
'Cause that the kind of girl I am.

Been inside too many airports,
To stop travelin' now,
Don't try to catch me with words,
'Cause ya' wouldn't know how.

I know in you there's somethin' gold,
But I still can't help but leave.
'Cause you're just a little too cold,
So, please don't blame this on me.

{chorus two}
I'm gonna walk this dirty old road,
Never too sure of where I'll go,
But when I do come back inside,
I'll shake your hand and say goodbye,
'Cause that's the kind of girl I am.

Note: When Boudreaux does this song he just replaces "girl I am" with "man I am," and it works. When I sing it usually I use Guinness in winter, Shiner in spring and summer, and Killian's in the fall. Really you could do any beer brand, can't really replace the cigarette brand as I don't know of any others that rhyme with red or head.

Girl from South Carolina

This is for all the guys who date the wrong kinds of girls - get a girl from South Carolina. This is for all the Carolina girls; a class of our own.

GIRL FROM SOUTH CAROLINA
Maddie McGuire/Boudreaux Roz
(c) 2006 GirlMoon Music/Roztaffarian Music

(G)
Jessica was from Charlotte,
(D)
And she slept around.
(A)
Turned out to be a harlot,
(D)
All over the town.

(G)
Louise was too obsessed,
(D)
With old time rock-n-roll,
(A)
Pseudo sophistication,
(D)
From somewhere in Ohio.
(C)
She always thought she,
(A)
Was the best of the best.
(D)
Turns out she don't,
(A)
Compare to the rest.

{Chorus}
(G)(D)(C)(A)
So give me the girl from South Carolina,
(G)(D)(C)(A)
Nothin' in this world would ever be fina'
(A)(C)(D)(A)
Than to hold the girl from South Carolina.

Katie was from London,
Had this thing about food,
Whatever she ate would,
Determine her mood.

Elise was born under the
The Arch in Missouri,
And All she ever gave me,
Was sweet misery,
Tryin' to save my soul,
From my heathen ways,
'Til I kissed her and,
Left her in a daze.

{repeat chorus}

Julie was from California,
And she'd act like it too,
SoCal was slapped on,
Everything she'd do.

Hilary was a tall girl,
From just north of Dallas,
Her chest was the only,
Thing bigger in Texas.
Her hands were stuck,
All over me,
But her heart could,
Never be seen.

{repeat chorus}

Girl at a Coffeehouse

This is a song about caffeine addiction. The chord progression is simply B (One and-a-two-and three-and a four) A(one two) B(one and-a-two and three and-a-four) then repeat throughout.

GIRL AT A COFFEEHOUSE
Maddie McGuire
(c) 2005 GirlMoon Music

Can you take this out of my memory,
And make everything all right,
Find the cure for what it's done to me,
And let me move on with this life?
I was stopped fast, like I do,
Then left, I ran so far away,
Now I'd like to make somethin' new.
Too pretty for my own good anyway.

You see me at the bar in front of this line,
I look like I might just need caffeine,
And if I don't get some soon I might die,
'Cause the thoughts stop and I can't speak,
But you prove to me that it's okay,
Small dark with Irish Cream
You read my crazy mind today,
The quickest barista I've ever seen.

I take mt coffee and I sit outside,
Hoping for a break if only for ten,
But then the day slips by, I sigh,
It's time to get up and go at it again,
I get up and adjust my hair,
Don't need that kind of attention,
I have to look like I care,
Even with a caffeine addiction.

I want to step inside and say goodbye,
Thanks for the coffee, then walk away,
If I do that I'll just get one to go,
Well, maybe that would get me through the day.

Gin and Juice/Cranberry Vodka.

I wrote this one this morning actually; just thought I'd go ahead and put it out there. So far just simple D-F-C but that may change. Capo 3.

GIN AND JUICE/CRANBERRY VODKA
Maddie McGuire
(c) 2011 GirlMoon Music

Je vais vous,
Enseigner tous,
Les Francais que je connais,
Si vous m'aider,
A apprendre tous,
Les Espagnol tu les savez.
Et nous allons,
Les mettre en pratique,
Chaque jour a la fois;
Bras dessus, bras pour,
Une seule autre.
Ensuite nous irons a la Candlelight Cafe,
Et aller vers la place de la Russie,
Nous allons prendre un cafe noir.

Gin and juice
With a twist of lime,
My accent will slip
After a few,
But all the time
Yours is perfect.

But, we'll go walking,
Across the city blocks,
To rub elbows with,
Owners of bars and theatres,
by the time we get there,
My shoes feel like rocks,
And it's about time for another.

Girl and boy,
Out for a night,
He promises to hunt,
And she gets coy,
Leans into his side,
and promises to cook.

I woke up this morning thought I had died, and landed somewhere in Heaven,
This feeling of euphoria is a little rare, and hard to come by for this girl
Lieutenant, I know it's still too soon to tell, but I'd like you to show me the world,
Though I fear you may hurt me one day 'cause that's the way it usually goes,
But I can't let whatever happened in the past to get in the way,
To keep me from trying to make this last, from everything I could know.
Michael gave us a ride back to the car, and we went for tacos at two in the morning,
Call me tomorrow, I had a great time, and looking forward to this again.

Gin and juice,
With a twist of lime,
I might get silly,
After a few,
But all of the time,
You're just perfect.

Cranberry,
Vodka and ice.
I think we'll be fine,
Plain and simply,
This was so nice,
This night was perfect.

Gin et le jus
Avec un zeste de lime
Mon accent va glisser
Apres quelques,
mais tout le temps
voitre est parfait
La vodka canneberge
et de la glace
Nous serons bien
plain et simplement
Cela etait si jolie
le nuit etait parfait

Georgia, Take Me Home

GEORGIA, TAKE ME HOME
Maddie McGuire
(c) 2005 GirlMoon Music

(E)
Suckin' down whiskey,
(F)
Like a fish in a bar.
(E)
Drivin' too fast,
(F)
To the store in your car.
(E)
But, how you gonna,
(F)
Get rid of this cough?
(G)
Baby,
(D)
It's crazy!

Georgia never,
Looked so fine.
Dancin' 'cross that,
Old state line.
But, how you gonna,
Forget your loss?
Baby,
It's crazy!

(E)(F)
The sun's comin' up over those lakes,
(G)(D)
The moon goes down under the hills,
(E)(F)
Your neck, in the sun starts to bake,
(G)(D)
And, the soft wind, it gently kills

{chorus}
(E)
Georgia!
(F)(E)
Lord, Georgia!
(G)(E)(G)
Oh, Georgia take me home.
(E)
Georgia!
(F)(E)
Lord, Georgia!
(G)(E)(G)
Oh, Georgia take me home.

Hidin' your treasures,
Deep in the dirt.
Hidin' your soul up,
Under your hurt.
But, What are you,
Gonna do now?
Baby,
It's crazy!

Your eyes they,
Have never cried,
Lookin' out on,
Georgia's skies,
But everyones,
Gotta learn how.
Baby,
It's crazy!

Givin' up somewhere by the coast,
Givin' in somewhere by the shore,
Feelin' like the forgotten ghosts,
And lookin' for a way out of more.

{repeat chorus until you feel like fading out}

Note: Simple to play, just be rocky, bluesy, and loud.

Fuck You (I Was Falling in Love)

If you've already read the title of the song then it's too late to show you this:
Oh well.

FUCK YOU(I WAS FALLING IN LOVE)
Maddie McGuire
(c)2007 GirlMoon Music

You don't understand what it's like for a girl,
So don't you dare try for a second whirl.
I used to think you were so amazing,
But now I know the truth;
It grinds me like I'm dieing,
To see that in you.

Fuck you, I was falling in love,
Your words could melt me or lift me up,
'Til you came home drunk,
And talkin' like a pig,
Sayin' all those things as you,
Take the bottle for another swig.

{chorus}
I want to forgive,
But I can't give in.
I want to forget,
But I can't do that again.

I wanted you to love me,
Just me and nothing more.
Just as I am.
Don't try to sweet talk me now,
You don't understand.

{repeat chorus}

I could have loved you 'til death,
And you come home fire on your breath,
Showin' a side I'd never seen before,
Now you're losin' my faith,
And I'm on guard all the time,
Where I used to feel safe,
It shows on my face.

{chorus}

Fountain Inn, SC

FOUNTAIN INN, SC
Maddie McGuire
(c) 2001 GirlMoon Music

How are you now that you've shut me out,
Though I kept writing letters to Fountain Inn,
Isn't this how you wanted it to turn out,
Or were you ever going to let me back in?

{chorus}
Runnin' out of view, unhappy with me.
If this is what you want, get away from me.

If I brought it back you'd shut me up,
Can't make a deal with the devil on this one.
Time for apology has already passed up,
So, I'll have to face that we're done.

{repeat chorus}

I hope you're alright before you burn out,
But I won't open my door again.
Next time I'll be the one kickin' you out,
then I'll stop writing letters to Fountain Inn.

For Germany

FOR GERMANY
Maddie McGuire
(c) 2004 GirlMoon Music

{chorus}
(E)(C)(Am)(G)
You wouldn't let me leave for Texas or Tennessee,
(E)(C)(Am)(G)
So why're you gonna leave me for Germany?

(E)(C)
I wouldn't drop your hand
(E)(C)
Not for Alabama
(Am)(G)
Nor New Zealand.

And I wouldn't change your plans,
Not for fame and fortune,
Nor North Ireland.

{repeat chorus}

And, I'll give up on London,
I'll leave Paris,
Well enough alone.

I'll never set foot down in
Africa again if
You'll just stay at home.

(E)(C)(Am)(G)
I recall the day you begged me to stay
(E)(C)(Am)(G)
And, so I stayed away from Botony Bay,

I vowed to wait, said I would never leave,
Not for New Orleans, not for Los Angeles.

{repeat chorus}

Oh, so please won't you stay,
Away from Bremerhaven,
from Eisenhuttenstadt.

'Cause when you asked I stayed,
From old Johannesburg,
and from Oranjestad.

{repeat chorus}

Fog on the Pier

FOG ON THE PIER
Maddie McGuire
(c) 2001 GirlMoon Music

(G)(F)
Mother Ocean,
(G)(A)
I sing for your depth.
(G)(F)
Oh, mother ocean,
(G)(A)
Hold me at my death.

Mother ocean,
Take me as I come.
Oh, Mother ocean,
Sea and earth are one.

(G)(F)(G)(A)
Though I've lost all fear
(G)(A)(C)(D)
There's still fog on this pier.
(G)(F)(G)(A)
I need to see your light,
(G)(A)(C)(D)
Coming in this cold night.

Mother ocean,
Love me as I am.
Oh, mother ocean,
Hold me in your hands.

I have got all these spirits,
Comin' from me, deep within.
And I have got me demons,
Wherever they've come from.

Mother ocean,
Take me as I come.
Oh, mother Ocean,
Sea and earth are one.

Flower for Your Thoughts

FLOWER FOR YOUR THOUGHTS
Maddie McGuire
(c) 2001 GirlMoon Music

(G)(D)(A)
The sun used to shine bright over you,
(G)(D)(A)
But now i doubt what I always knew,
(G)
Because, some things come through,
(G)(D)(A)
When you say what you really mean,
(G)(D)(A)
So say what you really mean.

The sun used to call you a friend,
But now it just torches your hand,
'cause it found out about you, man,
Why couldn't you've come out long ago,
To save on the heartache we all now know.

(G)(D)(A)
And I know that you don't care.

But, now I believe it is best to be honest,
Else you'll just come across as ignorant,
I already know you don't wanna hear it,
But where there's a will to vent all this,
Sure there's a way to get out of this.

And, this slow motion afternoon,
Per par will probably arrive too soon,
Unless you're going to howl at the moon,
Don't forget to buy me some flowers,
Tulips are the best way to put out fires.

Along the margins it's so irrelevant,
Who's to really say what is important,
Most of the witnesses will remain silent,
Just that you answer me honestly,
and that you actually want to talk to me.

But I know that you don't care.

And, I think now it is best to be honest,
Haven't a clue what you see in this,
And I know you don't wanna hear it,
But where there's a will to vent all this,
Sure, there's a way to get out of this

1st of July

1st OF JULY
Maddie McGuire
(c) 2002 GirlMoon Music

(G)
I remember you like the first of July,
(G)
When everything you told me,
(D)
couldn't be a lie,
(G)
Oh, but now you're gone,
(G)
Somewhere in the distance,
(D)
Since September
(G)
Everything's been up for chance.

Remember me in my time of glory,
When I was everything,
I wanted to be,
But you took my purpose,
Stole it all away,
And, I'd let you again,
If you asked me today.

{chorus}
(E)(A)
Our hearts melted in the sun
(G)(D)
We had times and we had fun
(E)(A)
But it wasn't everything you wanted,
(G)(D)
And I wasn't anything you needed.

I remember you like tenth of May
I remember you being
Handsome that day,
Oh, but now it's become
Just a memory,
Just like everything,
You ever said to me

{repeat chorus}

I remember you,
In my life in June,
I remember you.

Fine for You

FINE FOR YOU
Maddie McGuire
(c) 2004 GirlMoon Music

(G)(D)
You know it's been awhile,
(Am)(Em)
Since I eeked out a smile,
(G)(D)
But I've been grinnin' all mornin'
(Am)(D)
Like I'm a-crazy caught escapin'
(G)(D)
I know you can't help but care about it.
(G)(D)
So you say let's bring Jesus in on it.
(G)(D)
Last night I was just nervous,
(G)(D)
'Cause I don't know how to do this,
(Am)(Em)
But it's fine by me if it's fine for you.

Your fingers lightly on my head,
My mind crunchin' all you've said.
I won't back down just like I'd swore,
Even when this ol' heart gets sore.
I told you all that there is about me,
I was afraid that such open honesty,
Might drive you off and scare you away,
But you'll kiss me again come Friday,
And it's fine by me if it's fine for you.

Lay back down, we'll put on some music,
Maybe take the leap and take the risk,
So lay your head down upon my breasts,
Whisper my name like I am the best.
You know I've never had so much fun,
It's always been a life on the run,
But it's time for me to calm on down,
if you don't mind I think I'll stick around,
So it's fine by me if it's fine for you.

Note: Capo on the 4th fret.

Hold me Down

HOLD ME DOWN
Maddie McGuire
(c) 2002 GirlMoon Music

(Am)(G)
Hold me down,
(Em)(D)
Oh, hold me down,
(Dm)(F)
'Til the sun,
(Em)(Am)
Floats around;
(Am)(G)
'Til I come,
(Em)(D)
On a rising sun,
(Dm)(F)(Em)
From a faraway land.

Have your fill,
Oh, have your fill.
Have your fun,
What you feel,
'Til I'm gone,
Like a flashing gun,
But still touching your hand.

Hold me dear,
Oh, hold me dear,
Safe from time,
Safe from dear,
'Til I come,
On a falling sign,
Living off what you planned.

Take me down,
Oh, take me down,
Out of sight,
Not around,
'Til I'm gone,
Into the night,
to a faraway land.

Falling Apart

FALLING APART
Maddie McGuire
(c) GirlMoon Music

I can't show it, this you know.
My inside's growin' about to blow.
I think I'm kind of losing grip,
I think I took the step to slip.

{chorus}
If anything I am,
I am falling apart.
With everything you are,
Please keep my heart.

I need something sane,
To keep it all tamed,
So I don't change who I am,
So I can find a better plan.

Never let go emotions,
I can't show those oceans,
But they're rockin' under storms,
Mixin' the cold with the warm.

{repeat chorus}

And hold on to it tight,
Somethin's gotta feel right,
'Cause it's all out of my hands,
Even faith in God and man.

What am I now?
What am i to be?
When I just need you to hold onto me.

When everything's comin' down and fallin' away from me.
Spinning out of control, spiraling entropy.

{repeat chorus}

'Cause I'm losin' touch,
With this reality.
Can you bring me back down to safety.

Gather me up, reassemble me, back to one piece,
Help me compose and strengthen my seams.

Faithless

FAITHLESS
Maddie McGuire
(c) GirlMoon Music

(G)(C)
Dear Lord, can you tell me if you still love me,
(G)(C)
Did Jesus still die to set me free,
(G)(C)(D)
Now that I've poisoned this temple you gave me
(G)(C)(D)
Now that I've painted colours on this body,
(G)(F)(C)
I know I never was the best at all this.
(D)(F)(C)
But Lord could you guide me through this?

(C)
I've been faithless,
(G)(D)
And I've marred your name.
(C)
I Fell for the Devil,
(G)(D)
And thought you were the same.

Dear Lord, do you still desire for me to be saved,
Does Jesus still arise from his earthly grave,
Now that I've broken the law of the land,
That's not the only one painted my hands,
I know this life isn't what it's meant to be,
But Lord I need you to lead me.

I've been faithless,
And I said your name in vain.
I fell from your grace,
And I think I've gone insane.

Dear Lord, can you find the mercy to forgive me,
Jesus, please never let me be.
I want to shine as one of those little stars,
And I know I could never get very far,
If I tried to walk this world alone,
Oh, Lord, please bring me home.

I've been faithless,
And I've sinned against you.
When I am lost,
please show me what to do.

Dear Lord, could you tell me if you still love me,
Did Jesus still die to set me free.

Everything in June (Alles in Junie)

EVERYTHING IN JUNE (ALLES IN JUNIE)
Maddie McGuire
(c) 2006 GirlMoon Music

Photographs on the open floor,
Like autumn leaves of Heaven's shore.
Setting sail for to make the news,
Bound for hell, and dressed in blue.
Through doldrums and through storm,
The whisper they yell, "This is War!"

{Chorus}
Alles in Junie, everything in June,
Kom terug uit die woestyn vir jou.
Every flower past bloom,
Ek het my vryheid aan jou.
Alles in Junie, everything in June
Came back from the desert for you.
Afgelope bloei, elke blom,
I gave my liberties to you.

Once the sickle and the hammer,
Is now the blade and the star,
And this time the eagle soars above,
And Lady Libertie weeps for love,
Where past dragoons and legionnaires,
New boots marching toward le guerre

{repeat chorus}

{repeat chorus}

Note: it is bilingual to illustrate that our conflicts are not ours alone.

Everything I Wish to Be

EVERYTHING I WISH TO BE
Maddie McGuire
(c) 2005 GirlMoon Music

(E)(A)(E)(B)
These mismatched tiles read me in your files;
(C#m)(A)
Some things were never written down,
(E)(B)
But the reassurance is somewhat sound,
(E)(A)
That someone will remember me,
(E)(B)
For everything I wish to be.

The fading red paint is the memory faint,
That could never have worked out.
Searching to find what it's about,
I have to set you free,
For everything I wish to be.

I see the noble men and I think of you again.
I see inside their lives,
Their children and their wives,
And they shall always see me,
for everything I wish to be.

{chorus}
(E)
And, now that I'm,
(B)
Gone,
(C#m)
Do I look like,
(A)
Photographs?
(E)
When you think,
(B)
Real hard,
(C#m)
Can I still,
(A)
Make you laugh?

I will recall them again when I see them,
Everyone I see around,
Next time I'm in this town.
How changed I shall be,
To everything I wish to be.

I want to go out knowin' what it's about,
And known for a bigger heart,
Known for playing my part.
Contented and happy,
Everything I wish to be.

{repeat chorus}

Note: I play it with the Capo on the Second Fret.

El Paso By Dawn

EL PASO BY DAWN
Maddie McGuire
(c) 2009 GirlMoon Music

I remember it was a Sunday mornin;
Right out of the blue
I was readin' a book just to see if I should
recommend it to you
About chapter eight you decided to pick a fight
you were gone by noon and I was on the road by night

You were always sayin' you were gonna leave
I always knew you actually would
I cried while you packed up your things,
but the I found the riddance good
So I changed my clothes and fixed my face
tossed that stupid novel in the trash
took a deep breath to slow my pace
then I hit I-10 like a race track

{chorus}
El Paso by dawn
single brunette alone
El Paso by dawn
ain't goin' home
to San Antone

Smokin' another cigarette
Another habit I regret
Can't believe i started this again
I had quit before we met
just like all the other fools

It's been a rough year
And I've worn out my gears
just tryin' to make it through

I say that I might be breakin' down
All mama can do is tell me that
I'm better off without you around
I know that mama is right
and that is why
I've covered so much ground

{chorus}

Note: this one's still a work in progress - haven't quite gotten the music down

El Lamento Del Martir

This is about that mission in the jungle of Argentina that then became part of Brazil and the Portuguese came and ruined everything. They turned it into a movie called the Mission. And, I don't know Portuguese for "mission" so I called it the "Martyr's Lament" instead. Only in Portuguese and not English... even though the entire song is in English... So is the movie for that matter. If you want to follow along, First verse = Liam Neeson, Second verse and chorus = Robert DeNiro, Third verse = Rolf Gray, Fourth verse and chorus = Jeremy Irons.

EL LAMENTO DEL MARTIR
Maddie McGuire
(c) 2003 GirlMoon Music

(Am)(Em)
Father John, are you on your mission
(Am)(D)
Sail down this river, all the way home
(Am)(Em)
So what is right, John, when you hear the call
(Am)(D)
Shot through the heart, and sails fall
(Bm)
Oh, John, you're not alone.

Brother Rodrigo, take our your armour
Unsheathe your sword 'cause there's sheep to protect
The Portuguese wolf said these lands are mine
I have the rights to the tribes
and I demand respect

{chorus}
(Am)(Em)
Carry your life up the plateau
(Am)(D)
But, what is right when nothing's clear
(Am)(Em)
Crucified in the mist and snow
(Am)(D)
The love of God will replace your fear

Father Rolf, Jesuit ambition
Left old Madrid with your Christian dreams
for the love of Christ you came to this place
San Carlos is nothing like Spain
As hopeless as it seems

Father Gabriel, was this the right thing
Deny the church for the love of Christ
shot in the throat for your spoke softly
Died by the cross of glory
Oh, Father save us

{repeat chorus}

Ebb and Flow

EBB AND FLOW
Maddie McGuire
(c) 2001 GirlMoon Music

(C/G)(Am)
The tide does not ebb nor flow
(C/G)(Am)
There's always less land than sea
(Fmaj7)(Am7)
The stars do not know where to go
(C/G)(Am)
And there's no one to lead the sheep
(C/G)(Am)
Back to their homes, their shepherds
(Fmaj7)(Am7)
When a handful could not save the rest
(C/G)(Am)
So why do I always go with the herd
(C/G)(Am)
Though I know it's not for the best

{chorus}
(Fmaj7)(Am7)
Therefore the grace of you grace
(Fmaj7)(C)
Therefore the grace of you grace
(Fmaj7)(Am7)(C)
Therefore the grace of you grace mine eyes

The water here is never too blue
Brown like the dirt upon which we sleep
I'd share all that I have with you
If only for your heart to keep
And while you want to keep my heart
You'll never know what you have
Until you and I are taken apart
So let us stay in the moments we have

{repeat chorus}

Keep the fields while the crop still grows
Fly like the birds when you know you can
Never doubt what someone else knows
Or you won't know if they're a true friend
I am still knocked over by you
and hope someday to be together
Somehow I thought you always knew
That you're better than any other.

{Repeat chorus}

Durban to Dublin

DURBAN TO DUBLIN
Maddie McGuire
(c) 2002 GirlMoon Music

(G)(D)
On this mountain where I sit,
(G)(D)
The world looks so small from here.
(G)(D)
God's nature makes me feel so big
(G)(D)
But let's me keep my fear,
(G)(D)
I lived in Pittsburgh, been to New York,
(C)
And in Boston too
(G)(D)
Climbed the Rockies, crossed the Serengeti,
(C)
But I'm comin' home to you.

{Chorus}
(Am)(G)
Oh, baby you called me madam,
(Am)(D)
And father you called me a woman
(Am)(G)
I didn't count the roads I walked
(Am)(D)
But, I reach out with beaten hands

Clean the smell off of my shoulders,
Wash the blood from my hands,
I don't know where I was born,
but born again in your plans.
I remember Belfast, and I remember the rain,
fallin' there and in London.
Carryin' the past I've been writin' my way,
from Durban to Dublin.

{repeat chorus}

Oh, baby you called me madam,
And father you called me a woman.
Oh, nature you called me a guest,
And world i called you a friend.

Oh, baby you called me madam,
And father you called me a woman.

Drift Away

This song is dedicated to all those who need to take a chill pill.

DRIFT AWAY
Maddie McGuire
(c)2007 GirlMoon Music

(Bm)
Don't come home angry,
(D)
Just come to bed.
(Bm)
I know you had a long day,
(G)
Rest your weary head.

(Bm)(D)(G)
I could find magnolias to calm you down,
(Bm)(D)(G)
But Louisiana's at least a day away.
(Bm)(D)(G)
So I do what I can with a guitar
(Bm)(D)(G)
Tryin' to find a way to drift away.

Don't wake up early,
Just sleep through morning.
Come a little closer,
I'll wait while you're sleeping.

Roses and candlelight wine would be nice,
It's just not what I need today.
I've told myself nearly a million times,
breath in, breath out, drift away.

(Bm)(D)
Drift away over the river.
(Bm)(G)
Drift away with me.
(Bm)(D)
Ride the flowing wind,
(Bm)(G)
Drift away in a dream.

Drift away to the mountains,
Drift into my arms,
Drift away on the oceans,
Listen to your heart.

Don't say a word,
just lay beside me,
I won't move a muscle,
set your cares free.

Dreams of Bercelona

DREAMS OF BARCELONA
Maddie McGuire
(c) GirlMoon Music

(Am)(Em/C)
The amber sun sets o'er brownstone faces,
(Am)(Em/C)
The cathedrals throw shadows in places,
(Am)(C)
That create these,
(F)(Am)
Dreams of Barcelona.

Like photographs that we've all seen,
And all those postcards you sent to me,
Don't compare to these,
Dreams of Barcelona.

A velvet robe standing in the window,
With a breeze the mystery's shown,
In these phantom,
Dreams of Barcelona.

Like wild epics and tales long gone,
Romances that last after the dawn,
I'm stuck in these,
Dreams of Barcelona.

All the birds seem to flock on cue,
And the only thing missing is you,
In these montage,
Dreams of Barcelona.

The merchant call sound o'er the crowd,
Though now the sun sun is setting down,
Over all of my,
Dreams of Barcelona.

It feels like an ancient story told,
When this wind blows a slight cold,
Under the nightly,
Dreams of Barcelona.

It's a long way down from this perch,
This bell tower aiding in m search,
For truth in these,
Dreams of Barcelona.

The glowing dawn wakes me back now,
To the world that doesn't know how,
to exist outside these
Dreams of Barcelona.

Deny me, Try Me, Lie to Me.

DENY ME, TRY ME, LIE TO ME
Maddie McGuire
(c) 2005 GirlMoon Music

(Bm)(Em)
High this mountain, wide the ocean,
(Bm)(F#m)
Still my love measures greater.
(Bm)(Em)
Every hour with all my power,
(Bm)(F#m)
I wish you're doing better.

Loud the piper, shrilling higher,
Still I could scream it louder,
If you wished me to set them free,
all the feelings I hold for thee.

Swift the birds, abundant the words,
Still my love measures greater.
If I had no way to find you today,
I'd sprint as fast as my legs may.

Black the coffee, and pale are we,
Still I burn deep within me.
With every breath I wish the best,
For all your life until you rest.

(Bm)(Em)(Bm)
So deny me, try me, and lie to me.
(F#)(Em)(Bm)
Push me away if you wish it so.
(F#)(Em)(F#m)
Just know the heart shall never go

So deny me, try me, and lie to me.
Cut me down when I stand tall,
But know the heart doesn't lie at all.

So deny me, try me, and lie to me.
Pull me in or knock me out,
No matter how much I kick about.

So deny me, try me, and lie to me.
Tell me that you don't care for me,
But know that I always loved thee.

Delivered From

It's about sex, duh.

DELIVERED FROM
Maddie McGuire
(c) 2000 GirlMoon Music

(G)(A)(D)
Let me see the things that angels wouldn't show,
(G)(A)(D)
Point me in the direction, and come when I go.
(G)(A)(D)
Smells like we're burnin' though it's still so cold!

{chorus}
(G)(A)(C)
Delivered from my lonesome den.
(G)(A)(C)
Delivered from bein' lonely again.
(G)(A)(C)
Delivered from an empty bed.
(G)(A)(C)
Delivered from a clouded head.

You know I die when you're with your friends,
And when you smile I am in your hands,
And every time it makes me crawl in bed,

And wish to have you oh so close to me.
You know you'll always set me free.
Now, do you see how I wish to be...

{repeat chorus twice}

Delight Delight

This is one of those happy ones, I hope it brings joy at light to all who hear it... er... read the lyrics. Yeah that.

DELIGHT DELIGHT
Maddie McGuire
(c) 2009 GirlMoon Music

(F)(Fmaj7)
Oh, to be ocean-side,
(C)(Cadd9)
Sleeping to the tide,
(F)(Fmaj7)
The rhythm of the flow,
(C)(Cadd9)
Could always make me glow.

Oh, to sing the siren's song,
Never get the tune all wrong,
The melody of the breeze,
Blowin' round my bare knees.

{chorus}
(F)
Delight!
(Fmaj7)
Delight!
(C)
Love me,
(Cadd9)
Tonight!
(C)
Make me smile in,
(Cadd9)
The moonlight!
(G)
Make me a,
(Cadd9)
Beautiful sight.
(F)
Delight!
(Fmaj7)
Delight!
(C)
Hold me,
(Cadd9)
Up high!
(C)
Let me soar,
(Cadd9)
Through the sky!
(G)
And, never,
(Cadd9)
Wonder why.

Oh, to be mountain-top,
With lungs ready to pop,
A heart ready to explode,
Unless I sing out this ode.

Oh, to touch heaven above,
And to be truly loved,
For everything I am to be,
And nothing more than me.

{repeat chorus twice}

Daydream

Ya' know this one's been floatin' around for awhile, and people still like it so yeah.

DAYDREAM
Maddie McGuire
(c) GirlMoon Music

(Am)
The soft silence of a summer rain
(Am)
Washes away everything
(Am)
On these rollin' risin' plains
(Am)
And my broken angel wings
(G)
So I daydream
(Am)(G)
I daydream
(Am)(G)
Driftin' away on lightning
(Am)
And I daydream
(G)
Daydream

{chorus one}
(G)
Whatever happened to
(D)(G)
My rockin' sea
(G)
Whatever happened to
(Am)
my dreams
(G)
Whatever happened to
(D)(G)
my witchin' moon
(G)
Whatever happened to
(Am)
Me

(Am)
My retired song and dance
(G)(Am)
Lullabies in my mind
(Am)
I can't seem to take a chance
(G)(Am)
I can't seem to find
(G)
Rhyme or reason
(Am)(G)
Or reason
(Am)(G)
I'm stuck in the ground
(Am)
In the dry season
(G)
Dry season

{Chorus Two}
Whatever happened to
the drummer I heard
Whatever happened to
my flyin' birds
Whatever happened to
my magic mind
Whatever happened to
my words

Walkin' away all torn and tattered
And runnin' into walls
Findin' I'm more lost and scattered
And I'm losin it all
So I fall down
I fall down
Breakin my broken knees
and I fall down
I fall down

{chorus Three}
Whatever happened to
my starry night
Whatever happened to
my sunlight
Whatever happened to
my blessings
Whatever happened to
my might

Must have forgotten how to pray
I can't even speak
lock jaw on my silver tongue
I have become weak
So I daydream
I daydream
'Bout everything I seek
and I daydream
I daydream

{repeat chorus one}

Note for the unspecified verses use the chord progression as illustrated in second verse, starts out soft and builds in the first verse.

Dallas

Dear Texans, Don't hurt me.

DALLAS

Maddie McGuire

(c) 2007 GirlMoon Music

(G)(D)

We didn't leave on the best of terms

(G)(C)

Never really said goodbye

(G)(D)

But I'm still thinking of you

(G)(C)

Blond under a great big sky

(G)(C)(D)

And you're the only reason I'd ever go to Dallas

(G)(D)(C)

But, you're the only one who got me to leave Texas

I hope this letter finds you well

I wish you'd write me soon

'Cause often I wonder

If you think of me too

When you're spendin' all your money in Dallas

Lookin' so cool in that heat of Texas

(G)(C)(D)

Well, I'd like to forget about Dallas

(G)(C)(D)

And never set foot in Texas again

(G)(C)(G)

But all it would take is one phone call

(D)(C)(G)

And I'd be on that next train in

And the good Lord knows I fuckin' hate Dallas

and the good people know I fuckin' hate Texas

Everyone knows the Lone Star is a sin

But one phone call and I'd be there again

Well I'd like to forget about Dallas

And never set foot in Texas again

But all it would take is one phone call

And I'd be on that next train in

And the good Lord knows I fuckin' hate Dallas

The good people know I fuckin' hate Texas

Oh yes oh yes, oh the lone star is a sin

But one phone call and I'd be there again

One phone call and I'd be there again.

Cypremort Point

CYPREMORT POINT
Maddie McGuire
(c) 2004 GirlMoon Music

(C)
I went last night down to Cypremort Point,
(Dm)
And, I dreamed you were there floatin' on the bay,
(Em)
Like an angel from the clouds all rainin' down,
(Dm)
And I dreamed all night of the things you'd say

{chorus one}
(D)(A)
I walked out past the old Ghost Shed,
(D)(A)
The fog just runnin' through my head,
(D)(A)(G)
A little smokey sometimes, but that's alright.

I slept last night with the coolin' sea breeze,
and a vision of you floatin' around my mind.
I wish the future would turn out like these;
Sometimes confidence is a little hard to find.

{repeat chorus one}

{chorus two}
'Cause I'll be seein' you sometime again.
I'll ask you just how good you've been,
A little soggy sometimes, but that's alright.

So I swam last night 'round Cypremort Point,
Thinkin' on old promises that you'd said,
Upon my return to those little salt hills.
I've been tryin' to get you out of my head.

{repeat chorus two}

Note: Capo on the 2nd fret, not fast, but not slow, a little jaunt but, methodically smooth and haunting.

Come on, Yellow Rose

I wrote this when I realized I was going to have to come back to Texas.

COME ON, YELLOW ROSE
Maddie McGuire
(c) 2009 GirlMoon Music

(B)(A)
I woke up this mornin'
(B)(A)
With Texas on my mind
(B)(A)
Flyin' down the highway
(B)(A)
A Lone Star to find
(B)(A)
And If I seem down
(B)(A)
Just leave me alone
(B)
I left my heart
(A)
For San Antone
(D)(A)
So come on, yellow rose,
(E)
Carry me home.

(B)(A)
Come on, amorous, say you love m
(D)(A)
From Eden to the Amazon
(B)(A)
Come on, plant a kiss on me
(D)(A)
Live it 'fore the memories gone.

{Chorus}
(E)(A)
I'll be the Queen of Hearts
(D)(A)
I'll be the perfect ten
(B)
I can misbehave
(A)
For you again
(D)(A)
So come on, yellow rose
(E)
Carry me home

Come on, Diva, sing me one more time,
Lean into me, feed me a line.
Come on, don't care what they say
We weren't meant to be any other way

{repeat Chorus}

Come on lovely, take me down
like the riverwalk down town
Wrap your arms around me,
and breath your soul into me.

Come on baby crack me up
And melt me down into you
Take me out and fill me up
with the things we used to do

{repeat chorus}

Note: Texas beer hall country blues rock, duh.

Come On

Look, I didn't say they were all going to be good.

COME ON
Maddie McGuire
(c) 2000 GirlMoon Music

{Chorus}
(G)(A)
Come on, alright,
(Am)
So it took awhile,
(Bm)
But you're here tonight.
(G)(A)
Come on, alright
(Am)
Lemme see the smiles,
(Bm)
that makes it feel so bright.

(D)(Em)
It's gonna be a whole new world,
(G)(A)
With broken promises,
(D)(Em)(G)(A)
I'm gonna try my best to do everything for you.
(D)(A)
I'm gonna tell you right now,
(G)
It might not be perfect,
(A)
But if I ever let you down I will make it up to you.

{repeat chous}

It'll be a dream of standing under the stars so free,
Lookin' upward at all the heavens,
All the stars found deep in sleep.
You'll never be,
Just some faded memory,
Because you are the one, the one I will always keep

{Repeat Chorus}

Note: I just realized this should be the them song for sedation dentistry.

COME NOW, KATE

COME NOW, KATE
Maddie McGuire
(c) 2005 Girlmoon Music

(G)(D)(G)
Come now, Kate, it's time to choose your pain,
(G)(D)(G)
So what's your poison gonna be?

Can you see the storms comin' after the rain,
Can't you see the storms in me?

Come now, Kate, breath in the tar deep,
Take a picture of perfect health.

Let me know if this is a moment to keep.
Put it in front of all your wealth.

Come now, Kate, smile something to hide,
I can't see just what it's at.

Is someone still on your insides?
I'm sure it's something like that.

Come now, Kate, the night is still young,
Too early for leavin' right now.

I'll try to get you to stay, I will,
As soon as I figure out how.

(A)(D)(A)(D)
But I'm not worth your time, and you're not worth mine.

Come now, Kate, kiss it like a gray sky,
In a far away mountain range.

I know it doesn't sit exactly right,
Even with Grey Goose on the brain.

Come now, Kate, I think you know it too,
It might be fun for the night.

But, I would never last with you,
And it would end in a fight.

'Cause I'm not worth your time, and you're not worth mine.

Come now, Kate, don't just give it away,
Maybe for some other time.

Don't just give it to me, not today,
But maybe down the line.

Come now, Kate, hold it all in if you can,
I just want to see your smile.

I want but shouldn't hold your hand,
let's just talk for awhile.

'Cause I'm not worth your time, and you're not worth mine.

Come Back to the Waterfall

This is a song about someone who is not longer the person they once where - like something happened personally to change them drastically, and they become completely different from their former self. It's a call to that someone to let them know that no matter what some people will still be there for them.

COME BACK TO THE WATERFALL
Maddie McGuire
(c) 2001 GirlMoon Music

(G)(D)
Come back to the waterfall
(C)(D)
Feelin' all your friends' knees fall
(C)(D)
Can't you hear the mist call
(G)(D)
Don't you wanna come play ball
(G)(D)
Like the child you left behind
(C)(D)
Bitter love stuck in our minds
(C)(D)
We need you here in our lives
(G)(C)
Won't you come say "hello" in due time.

While down here in the world
You would go for the whirl
You sent the clouds your free word
Like a noble righteous bird
The process took too long
Oh, it took too long
And now all that was is gone
All your faith is gone

{Chorus}
(G)
You gave up
(D)(C)
Gave in too fast
(G)(D)(C)
Don't you know the good things could last
(G)
You denied yourself
(D)
hid from the past
(G)(D)(C)
Took a broken limb out of the cast

Don't you hate what you've become
Feelin' lost here with no love
We'll love you, never be alone
You're welcome in our homes
All the things you did or said
All the conscience in your head
All the times you wished you were dead
Don't you recall how I called you best.

{repeat Chorus}

Coffee and Ink

COFFEE AND INK
Maddie McGuire
(c) 2005 GirlMoon Music

{Verse One}
(Bm)(Am)
Hot, cold, you and me,
(Bm)(E)
We're in the coffee.
(Bm)(Am)
When it's in me,
(Bm)(E)
And, when it's in you,
(Bm)(Am)(Bm)(E)
Drink our personalities.

I write, you study,
Sip from the coffee,
Same cup, different sting.
I see it speaks true,
taste our personalities

This is how we are,
Why we can't get far,
In a faster car,
Goin' the posted speed:
I'm a pub and you're a bar.

This is slightly bold,
We'll never grow old,
'Cause you're sippin' cold,
And it's hot in me,
This idea I sold.

{Repeat Verse One}

Note: Capo on the 2nd fret.

Cheek to Cheek

It's a love song. I know you guys are sick of those right about now, but too bad.

CHEEK TO CHEEK
Maddie McGuire
(c) 2005 GirlMoon Music

(G)(Cadd9)(G)(Cadd9)
If you take me by the hand,
(G)(Cadd9)(G)(Cadd9)
Spin me around in this dance,
(D)(G)(D)(G)
How would I know that you feel me?
(G)(Cadd9)(G)(Cadd9)
If we glide across the floor,
(G)(Cadd9)(G)(cadd9)
Gracefully towards the door,
(D)(G)(D)(G)
Would you make the exit with me?
(G)(Cadd9)(G)(D)(G)(Cadd9)(G)(Cadd9)
I want to know that you're in love with me.

Every moment that we kiss,
Every second we might miss,
I want to hear you tell me,
That you want to hear my voice,
That I am your only choice,
That you want to hold me closely:
I want to know that you're in love with me

I fall every time I see you,
I lean in always to kiss you,
I want you to try and kiss me.
You knock me out when you sing,
you know I can't help the thing,
You've cast your spell over me.
I want to know that you're in love with me.

(G)(Cadd9)
Head to head,
(D)(Cadd9)
Because I like you.

Cheek to cheek,
So I can tell you.

Hand in hand,
Because I love you.

Heart to heart,
Because I need you.

In your arms
Because I want to.

I want to know that you're in love with me.

I want to know that you're in love with me.

Note: Simple "one-and-ah-two and" and so on and so fourth, not too fast now though, this is the kind of song people dance to by hugging and rocking back in fourth - you know that thing people do during slow-dances in high school when they don't know how to dance.

Charleston Jeans

This one doesn't really have an explanation. But where else ya gonna get a song about pants.

PANTELONES DEL FUEGO CON AMORE
Just kidding.

CHARLESTON JEANS
Maddie McGuire
(c) 2009 GirlMoon Music

A need to get back to New Orleans
Still warin' out these Charleston jeans
They're rubbin' hard on those scabs
With a hunger for those Gulf Coast Crabs

This is never what it all seems
Patches on these old Charleston Jeans
A guitar carried in a gun-tote bag
By the marsh witch, that dirty old hag

A need to find out what it all means
a joke on those old Charleston Jeans
A riddle out of those old bags
with a mind made up of dish rags

These faded worn out old Charleston jeans
They got me back down to New Orleans
But this little riddle was never had
Since all the answers were far too sad.

CHARLESTON

This is a song about nothing in particular other than the City of Charleston. Forgive me for there's only one chord in the entire song: just play D throughout, and different variations of the D-chord whenever it seems right or wrong. Also, done right this song needs waves and a ship's bell.

CHARLESTON
Maddie McGuire
(c) 2006 GirlMoon Music/Chucktown Entertainment Magazine

Spend some time down at th' harbour,
climbin' that gallows tree
From all those ancient steeples
them ghosts was talkin' at me
Sayin' "Get out girl, this city won't leave your soul
But, we can't tell ya where to go."

The Atlantic wind blew from the east
Like a kiss from ya' sweet old motha
And this lager tastes just like the breeze
that flows in from the harbour
Charleston, don't you ever try to leave
Say it like you'll make me believe

You'll get burned by the sun on your heart
the sun from all these southern belles
The daughters juke just like her
but they're a baby-sitter's hell
She'll say she thinks she loves you but never acts like it
and you'll stop believin' in all of this shit.

The Palmetto bends in the wind
comes back standin' strong
The river flows out over again
nothin' ever stays too long
Brave river, that name someone gave ya'
dancin' out over the town singin' "Oh-la-la"

The moon shines down like a love
shinin' your crescent path
From somewhere behind and above
and comin' from the past
Charleston, don't you ever try to leave
Say it like you'll make me believe

Constellations illustrate the map
fog's comin' from the graves
Tryin' to find a way to get out o' all that
but it gives back what you gave
run around crazy
you're losin' your head
time to run 'fore
you paint it all red.

run around crazy
you're losin your head
time to run 'fore
you paint it all red

Run around crazy
You're losin' your head
Time to run 'fore
You paint it all red.

Solitude and Sanctuary
An alley off old Dock Street
Feelin' like a refugee
with nothin' left to eat
Charleston, don't you ever try to leave
Say it like you'll make me believe.

CERVEZA

I don't know why, but this one ended up being pretty popular amongst my few fans. Which is odd because I hated it for a year after I wrote it then suddenly it all came together and that was that.

CERVEZA

Maddie McGuire

(c) 2006 GirlMoon Music

(D)

I'm covered in

(C)

Blood

(D)

You're covered in

(C)

Smoke

(D)

You're all made

(C)

Up
(D)

And I'm 'bout to

(C)

Choke

{refrain}

(D)

And anyone

(C)

Anyone could

(G)

See

(D)

That anything

(C)
Anything could

(G)

Come

(C)

Between

{chorus}

(D)

So surround me

(G)

With your

(A)

Rings

(D)

As I surround you

(C)

With the song

(G)

I sing

You're full of

Shit

And I'm full of

Beer

But I can see

That

I've nothing to

Fear

{refrain two}

And anyone

Anyone could

See

I was asking

Was asking

You to

Use me

{repeat chorus}

{curfa one}

(D)

So come inside

(C)

Like

(D)

You've got nothing

(C)

To hide

(G)

And sit back down

(C)

Don't wait 'til I come

(G)

back around

{curfa two}

I'm runnin'

away

And you're pushin' me

Down

You're the words I sing

And I'm your stomping

Ground

{repeat refrain one and repeat chorus}

Note: Don't make it harder than it is: keep it simple, the verses just strum down on each beat, mix it up a little on the refrains and choruses; the curfas return to the simple single beat strums but trail them out a bit longer.

Carving in the Classroom

I wrote this one in high school, it's ya' know, about that kid; there's one in every class.

CARVING IN THE CLASSROOM
Maddie McGuire
(c) 2001 GirlMoon Music

(G)(F)
You're always runnin' around in circles
(C)(Am)
You're always diggin' your own holes
(G)(F)(C)(Am)
Always worryin' about what you don't know
(G)(F)
Your hands are always shaking
(C)(Am)
When you don't understand
(G)(F)(C)(Am)
Why you feel like yo can't find any friends

{chorus one}
(E)(F)
You scream, "Don't worry about me,
(G)
I'll set my own self free
(Am)
Can't you still see me
(C)(D)
Carving my name in the classroom?"

{chorus two}
You scream, "You don't know about me
and all I'm forced to be.
Can't you still see me
Carving my name in the classroom?"

You're always hiding in the dark
dirty little corners of this town
When folks words start bringin' you down
You're always feelin' low down
I wish I could try to help you out
but you won't tel me what it's really about

{repeat chorus one, repeat chorus two, then repeat chorus one again}

Ya know in that 90's rock stuff.

Cardiff

CARDIFF
Maddie McGuire
(c) 2004 GirlMoon Music

{verse one}
(Am)(Em)
here's what I think of Sunday
you would never let me say
I can't say how I feel
left out of your deal
so won't you talk to me
it's the beginnin' of the week
God rested on Saturday
let's move it to next Sunday

(Am)(Em)(G)(C)
So who are you oh no
knockin' on my window
won't you just let me be
if just for ten seconds please
who are you to pop on by
uninvited and so sly
always to come and go
however it pleases you so

{chorus}
(Am)(Em)(G)(C)
so riddle me this cut photographs
(C)
why must you cross all my paths
(Am)(Em)
what was is the past
(G)(C)
can't you just let it be
(Am)(Em)
What does Cardiff have
(G)(C)
that makes you better than me

you're everywhere we go
your fleece white as snow
your grin a bit dodgy
and eyes a tad shifty
shiver my timbers boy
must be better than McCoy
why won't you ever go
however it pleases you so

{chorus two}
If I never come back to Wales I won't care
'cause I've got nothin' i need to declare
what you want me to prove
can't you just let it be
what did Cardiff do
that makes you better than me

{repeat verse one}

{repeat chorus one}

Can I Make You Dream

CAN I MAKE YOU DREAM
Maddie McGuire
(c) 2001 GirlMoon Music

Can I make you move
Can I make you sing
What can i make you do
can I make you dream

Can I make you look up
can I make you love
I could sound like that
if it would help all that

Can I make you wish
Can I make you smile
Can I make you want this
I've tried for awhile

I can pray and I can write
I can back down or stay and fight
I can run and I can jump
I can come by and pick you up
but I can't make you move
I can't make you sing
there's nothing I could do
I can't make you dream

I could try and I could sing
I could stop by and let you be
I could come and I could go
I could hide or show my soul
but I can't make you wish
I can't make yous smile
I can't make you want this
I've tried for awhile

California

CALIFORNIA
Maddie McGuire
(c) 2002 GirlMoon Music

(D)(A)
You owe me more than your whole life
(D)(Em)
'Cause that was the original price
(D)(A)
and you don't know the meaning of me
(D)(Em)
'cause I couldn't teach you to believe
(D)(A)
When California's too far away
(D)(Em)
I sat down when you asked me to stay
(D)(A)
But now you've changed your mind
(G)(A)
and that just does not seem right
(G)(Em)
but that's how it seems tonight

Tomorrow comes to bring a change
maybe take it back to the old days
I think you know what makes me feel like this
after all you're the one who called it
I think you know what I want to say
maybe your heart can be trained
to try and sway your mind
but that just doesn't seem right
and that's how it seems tonight

my knees they bleed from kneelin' down to you
I don't know the limit of what I'd do
to win back your heart when I gave you mine
I trick myself to think that I'll be fine
is California still too far away
tell me quick 'cause I'm leaving today
I used to be so blind
I see why you picked that fight
so farewell, I love you but goodbye

Bus '67 Delux

This is about a friend's old Volkswagen.

Fahrvergnugen!

BUS '67 DELUX
Maddie McGuire
(c) 2003 GirlMoon Music

Can you smell it from the other side
drifting over like a rising tide
and it gets harder as we run
the farther we go the less we've gone
it's just over one mountain range
too late now for our minds to change

{chorus}
It's freedom
in the night you know
walk to the northern lights
It's freedom
to the sky we go
and it becomes all right

If we drive just a little farther
and go in depth a little further
we'll find it at the end of the road
the reason why we picked up to go
it's strange and it's in our hearts
leavin' behind all our heavy parts

{repeat chorus twice}

Burn

BURN
Maddie McGuire
(c) 2001 GirlMoon Music

(G)(A)(D)
Whenever I see that smile
(A)(G)(A)
the moment lasts awhile
(D)(A)(G)
I hope it'll never be gone
(A)(D)(A)
that this'll never go wrong

{chorus}
(E)(G)
You'd make my life
(A)(D)
oh you'd make my day
(E)(G)
You'd make my night
(A)(D)
with the words you say

{refrain}
(G)(A)
You burn me up
(D)
You burn me
(G)(A)
You burn me up
(D)
you burn me

{repeat refrain}

Every now and then
you start all over again
I know that it's all true
one day you'll burn me too

{repeat chorus}

{repeat refrain twice}

Note: Capo on the 3rd fret, power chord formations.

Bull in Oklahoma

Err... true story. Need I say more?

BULL IN OKLAHOMA
Maddie McGuire
(c) 2004 GirlMoon Music

So I feel like hitch-hiking home
now that there's nowhere else to go
woke you up this morning just to say I love you
and that I rode a bull in Oklahoma
as I held on I only saw you
here I am at eight o'clock and all I want is you

not proud of everything I've done
I don't know why I did most of them
I know it made this life more fun
but I'll play it safer than I did back then

somewhere heading south out of Tulsa
I think I can see the sun rise soon
might have been a week since I saw you
but I should be out of Dallas by noon

I rode a bull in Oklahoma
and I lasted just as long as I needed to
now I'm walking back home to you
with just myself to give to you

Note: just keep playing D-A-D-A-C through the thing

Buck

BUCK
Maddie McGuire
(c) 2006 GirlMoon Music

One
the wind blows from the water
and your mind slips to a daydream

Two,
the sun starts to shrink below
and the arena lights start to gleam.
You could smell the dirt in your fingernails,
See the dust floor rise in this turmoil
Spinnin' around 'round with a twist of luck
up and down with every buck

Three,
you take a deep breath
pull the gloves on tighter if you can

Four,
wrap your legs in leather
grasp the horn inside your left hand
feel your heart start beating faster
hear the whole crowd get quieter
spinnin around with a twist of luck
up and down with every buck

five
beast moves 'neath you impatient

Six,
listening for the sound of the start

Seven
you're open on the arena floor

Eight,
time to see if you've got the heart
spinnin' around with a twist of luck
up and down with every buck

Break Me

BREAK ME
Maddie McGuire
(c) 2001 GirlMoon Music

(D)
Break me with the eyes of a human
(E)(A)
and I know this is gonna be hard
(D)
Because I have been in this position
(E)(A)
shot down and under the ocean
(D)
I'd never get a no-reason greeting card
(E)(A)
it would have been nice if you were a friends

(D)(E)(A)
The woods don't speak so loud if you're lost in them
(D)(G)(D)(A)
They won't tell you I was the first to see you weren't there
(E)(G)
and it never mattered much that I cared at all
(A)(D)(E)
There was always someone else standing above me there

I learned how to lose a friend when you broke my trust
and i don't understand what it is with me
but I close mine eyes and I still see you
and I can tell you know it's more than lust
and I don't think I want to be free
I will love you no matter what you do

(D)
you could rock me so nice
(G)
and shake me free
(A)
from all my old
(E)
memories
(D)
you could take me away so easily
(G)
but now I see
(A)
you don't care for me

I'm almost sick of this river
and longing for your water of life
and from the way you don't look at me
I know you don't want me to make it right

so let me go if you must do so
but I will hold tightly to your hands
and I will never let my heart go free
a ghra mo chroi my only good friend
and this voice is letting me know let go

Bound for Carolina

I was heading east for the Atlantic coast from the southwest United States, and somewhere in Alabama the train came to a complete stop and didn't move for another several hours. In the midst of wondering what was going on that had halted the Crescent Line I meandered up to the club car to socialize, and found it packed with a bunch of guys from Atlanta playing poker and smoking cigarettes.

BOUND FOR CAROLINA
Maddie McGuire
(c) 2007 GirlMoon Music

{chorus}
I wish I was bound for Carolina
all this long gone behind me
but how will they look at me
when I finally make it back to Carolina

The path's been long and winding
each passin' day and mornin' sun
brings somethin' that puts me farther away
from the crescent moon rising
over the waters of Charleston
and the small mountain breezes sat

{repeat chorus}

Little black books filled up with names
of old flames and I wish were here
when I need them to hold my hands
but I just wouldn't be the same
we've long since lost touch I fear
love me as a child leave me as a woman

{repeat chorus}

And the boys from Atlanta are crowding the club car
if only the distance were only that far
I could play a hand of poker with them
and forget about the smokin' ribbons

{repeat chorus}

Note: Had my guitar not been packed away in check I might have put at least chords to it, but that didn't happen so yeah. Either way the Boys from Atlanta liked the bridge.

Bottle of Smoke

Regardless of the fact that Bottle of Smoke is the name of a race horse this one is not, I repeat not, about a horse. I was sitting at a cafe filling up an empty bottle with the smoke from a box of matches.

BOTTLE OF SMOKE
Maddie McGuire
(c) 2005 GirlMoon Music

(Em)(G)
Could you flash me a smile
(Em)(G)
You've been lookin' on and off
(Am)(G)
For quite a long while
(Em)(G)
You've got this look of a ragin' sea
(Em)(G)
I see the waves on the inside
(Am)(G)
when you're lookin' at me

{chorus}
(G)(D)
But, I'm gonna finish my Merlot
(G)(D)
I'm gonna get up and go
(Am)(D)
then we're gonna walk away
(Em)(D)
in our separate ways

I really do have some things to do
and I've procrastinated
giving this chance to you
I've filled my own bottle of smoke
just waiting for you
I guess it's all a joke

{repeat chorus}

I'm dreamin' of faraway places
my wanderlust desire
for unfamiliar faces
But, I'll be back tomorrow
since now it's gettin' rather late
and I have got to go

{repeat chorus}

Boston

BOSTON
Maddie McGuire
(c) 2004 GirlMoon Music

There you are in black and pink
If I could say the things I think
Would you listen to me,
Come a little closer to hear me speak?
A shame that it's so far away
I like the way you look today
and Boston could never say
Words to swoon and sway.

Did your knees just go weak
When I caught you lookin' at me?
Don't mind me taking this seat
Don't mind me as I try to think.

{Chorus}
Soon you will leave and not return
And never once think of me
This thoughts your last
Forgotten memories, let them burn
A shadow in this old city
A stranger from the past

So here I am in gray and blue
I know I once locked eyes with you
I jerked away as I always do
'Cause Boston already has you

{repeat chorus}

Note: I never bothered to put chords down for this one, so just have fun

Bobby Cleary (Moonlight O'er Baghdad)

This is a story song about five friends who joined the military - from the point of view of the only survivor.

BOBBY CLEARY (MOONLIGHT O'ER BAGHDAD)

(Em)(C)
This ol' moonlight o'er Baghdad
(Em)(C)
Makes me miss all that we had
(Am)
under moonlight and in the rain
(C)
In my Chevrolet just raisin' cane

Five young soldiers come home on leave
letting go of what no one would believe
two Army boys, three were sailors
Avoiding our duties and chores

(Em)(C)
under the boulevard's street lights
(Em)(C)
and I'm the only one left alive

Jason took on in the back in Mazar
the same damned place I got these scars
sometimes I still see his face at night
sometimes it wakes me with a fright

Jimmy lost his legs on Route Irish
climbed out of the wheelchair at the parish
all the papers still read of suicide
with the statue of Jesus at his side

Dylan lost touch until his wake in DC
and you, Bobby, taken my the sea.

{chorus}
(Am)(C)
A grown woman cries after all
(Am)(C)
even the hardest soldier takes a fall
(Em)(Am)
with the scars to show the world what they've known
(Am)(C)
I remember it rained that day
(Am)(C)
How you'd love this weather they'd say
(Em)(Am)
over closed caskets 'cause you can't be shown

we took your ashes up to the mountains
three thousand feet to the wind
over the valley and your hometown
almost saw your face in the clouds

I promise your memory to keep
Even if it keeps me from sleep
and when it rains over there in Iraq
I wish we, we were all back

safe and sound, me and you
cruisin' in my Malibu

{repeat chorus
